    Backtesting

Out of curiosity, why did you design a system with Long only? Is it because of the account you are trading on (a company 401k where you can only buy certain mutual funds, etc)?

How do I place an order for future price?

How many shares are you trading? I guess if you're trying to buy blocks of 100k, you might not get an instant fill, but with something liquid like AAPL, you should be pretty much good to go without using All or Nothing.

Does listening to music help your trading?

Shouldn't you be listening to "Money" instead? I like background music with no lyrics to relax...Try Brian Eno's "Music for Airports", some Hammock, Jeff Pearce,or even some decent classical music (Mozart, Strauss, etc)

    Nails Investments

I'm assuming they're referring to Lenny Dykstra? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_Dykstra Maybe he used the world series ring as startup capital for the Nails website.

Best Way to Use Elite Trader

Subscribe to whatever interests you and then you can get emails when there are updates to that particular thread. If you get 2 or 3 emails where people start to argue, might as well unsubscribe and move on because it's going to degenerate in to a sissy fight in cyberspace. If, on the other...

Survey: Chinese army officers say military conflict betwn USA-China inevitable

"Two toughest kids on the block, I guess...Sooner or later they gonna fight" (Power's Boothe when asked why WWIII started between the US and the USSR in the movie "Red Dawn")

Continuous Charts On Contracts with Expirations...

For you guys rolling your own systems/platforms,do you have any recommendations for creating continuous charts with contracts that expire? I've noticed that a new contract starts picking up volume maybe a week or so out from when current contract expires. Do you just simply merge the data...

What trading strategies can I try on a basket of assets?

What concept are you relatively new to: Spamming? Correct spelling? You've got the "re-directed link" think down cold, however. Direct quote from the website: "Look - to be as blunt as possible, 'you get what you pay for.'" I bet ol Charlie (the name signed at the end of the website) was...

Advice on Long term Option positions

It all depends on how risk tolerant you are and how big of a move you expect. It might make sense to find a strong level of resistance and set your OTM just beyond that. This way if you get a move, there's a good chance it'll take a breather near the resistance (eating away at the time decay of...

    CSIQ, X, and CAAS

All 3 have somewhat similar chart formations in the last month or so. X and CSIQ were pummeled and are far off their highs of last August, but all seem to be finding some support in their current areas. I'd rank them as CSIQ, X, and then CAAS in my order of preference. CSIQ has a stronger...

Recent Graduate....want to work as a trader

This info applies to any job search, not just trading. 1) You want to get your resume to someone specific, if possible. "Sir/Madam" is a nice impersonal way to join the pile on the desk (if you're lucky) or the circular file (if you're not). 2) If some of these places are within driving...

    Number of contracts

It would be worthwhile to review a bunch of your previous trades and see what the MAE is once you entered. Unless your trades never look back once you enter, it seems that you could always improve on your execution by averaging down to reach your 4 contracts. I'd probably put <50% right away...

    Yes or No

Guru posts long trade with stop "X" You take short trade with stop "Y" Stops "X" and "Y" not sized for market volatility. Market ranges somewhere beyond both "X" and "Y" before plummeting to new lows and beyond. Guru = wrong on direction, wrong on volatility. Guru loses. You = right on...

    Best book on money management?

As simplistic as they are, I think the Turtle money management rules are a good read, especially if you're just starting out and don't want to get slapped in the face with mathematics. Best of all, you can find the rules with an internet search, so you're not out a single cent.

Watch me trade 1 dollar to 90 million.

Can I go short on a case of MGD and a carton of Pall Malls when you go to the 7-11DAQ for next week's contract? I'd do it myself, but I over-leveraged on the PowerBall December 135,000,000s and they ended up OTM so I can't afford to get the El Camino fixed!

    Moving averages

I determine the trend using moving averages (strictly EMA) because I find it easier to quantify it numerically, However my actual entry to pull the trigger is always based on price action.
