    IB - epic failure today

Has anybody ever seen any useful info on that IB system status screen? Every time I've had connection issues (my internet ok but IB has issues), the status screen is always Fat, dumb, and happy.

Long DITM call with 1 delta as cheaper way to long stock?

You've got to keep an eye on the bid/ask spread as well. The more DITM you get, the wider the spread will probably be, especially as you get further out in time. For example, if you buy SPY and turn around and sell it immediately, you're probably out $2-3. Try that with a DITM, and you might be...

    Trade Journal Software

I played around with the free version of StockTickr a bit and from looking at their website it appears to be pretty powerful (it's an online program). I believe it's somewhere in the neighborhood of $50/month for the full-featured version. Looks to support a decent number of brokers (IB, TOS)...

    6E is awesome

What is the difference between 6E and EC? A futures website I was looking at claimed to love the EC, but I recall having difficulty finding that particular contract on IB, so I just used the 6E on Globex. Are they two shades of the same animal? Thx.

    Engineers Please advise

I'm assuming you want the overall wave form generated by the summation of the waves shown. Assuming you have actual numeric values for the horizontal axis, you can simply find the period of each wave (the distance between two identical points on the wave) and use the formula: A(t) =...

If you never went to college, what's the best job to have now?

How about some kind of volunteer position: Peace Corps, etc, etc? If nothing else, it'll give you a better perspective of how well off you are compared to most folks in the world.

If you never went to college, what's the best job to have now?

Well, you could do worse than the military, but I'm not talking any old joe-schmoe grunt, though. I'd recommend the Navy Nuclear program. You get 1-2 years of technical training and then serve 4 years on either a sub or a nuclear carrier. Advancement is quicker than many other rates (you...

    Little options big plans

Hi Pennystocker, one thought. If you have a small account, why not just trade the index ETFs (QQQQ, IWM)? If you look at the charts, stocks like INTC track the QQQQ for the most part, strikes trade at $1 increments and the QQQQ is even more liquid than INTC. Plus you get the added bonus of less...

    Noobs Are Definitely Getting Smarter

Or perhaps they are so over-awed by the majesty of it all they simply (cyber) stand there in (cyber) silence. :)

The GooBot: Diary A DIY Trading Platform

Thanks Byte, I'll have to take a look at Git. Sounds like a good way to share a repo. I was going to use Sourceforge, but haven't gotten around to the specifics yet. We use Subversion and Jira at work, and I was using Subversion at home prior to this project. I was going to use the base version...

    Even the pros blow up

The pamphlet does have some brilliant gems, though. These include the understated "whilst our NAV is impacted to the low side," the oxy-moronic "our opportunistic, aggressive yet conservative Capital Manager," and the mention of option purchases which was "money well spent and essential to...

The GooBot: Diary A DIY Trading Platform

UPDATE Been a little while since I've posted and I've been busy but haven't been able to code as much as I'd like (also, I'm in learning mode on the Windows Presentation Foundation so that slows me down as well). Anyway, what I thought I would try to do is post my projects at various stages of...

IB offering gateway access (API without TWS)

It's still mentioned in the API reference guide, but I can't find the download. The API crew normally reply to emails within a couple days, so hopefully they can shed some more light on when it will be released. http://www.interactivebrokers.com/php/apiUsersGuide/apiguide.htm

"The only way to trade with Fibonaccis" journal

Do you have any statistics for your system on the breakdown of retracements? (e.g.: 50% retraced to the 38% mark before returning to 0, 20% went to 100%, etc, etc.) I'm just curious if you ever tried to weight your position sizes to tweak your expectation based on that type of info.

    IWM/QQQQ Hard to borrow?

Looking on my Fidelity account this morning and there were 0 shares to short of IWM/QQQQ. A buddy said he also noticed this on his TOS account. I haven't tried it on my IB account yet (not at home). Other issues I checked (AMAT, EEM) had plenty available. Anybody else notice this?

    Warren Buffett overrated?

Also, I'd be willing to bet the amount of research he puts into each of his purchases is rather substantial, as opposed to your average investor who buys Coca-Cola because they had a Mountain Dew for lunch.

    Warren Buffett overrated?

What would be your definition of "enjoy?" I'm guessing that since he was pretty much able to follow a lifestyle of his choosing while providing for the future of his entire family AND make a difference to millions of people via donations that he derived quite a bit of enjoyment from that cash.

Help!! ITM long put in loss

Not sure what selling March ITMs will do at this point. The Mar 57.5 call is going for $2.48, which means you've got basically no time decay so you're just going to eat commissions on that one. You could sell OTMs on the covered calls, but other than the Mar60, the premium is basically nothing...
