Its all about you, not the strategy.

This is probably the biggest concept traders overlook, especially new traders. The market can only go up or down and you can either buy, sell, or do nothing at any given time. It's the "why" behind "what" you do that makes the difference. How can a trader tell the difference between a good...

    what's your goal in trading?

No, that was with my own account before I launched the fund. I take on a lot less risk with the fund, thereby generating less profit but it's still a very profitable venture.

What are the best markets for day trading?

You can get a demo account from most fut's brokers. I use global futures so you may want to try that. They will give you a 30 day trial but it comes with a sales pitch, which isn't such a bad thing if you're happy with their service.

    what's your goal in trading?

Chipper, It sounds as though you are on the fence between trading your own funds or starting a hedge fund, or just sitting on a beach somewhere drinking Coronas. You definitely want to take that third choice :D Kidding aside, if your heart is not in starting a hedge fund don't do it. The...

What are the best markets for day trading?

If you're looking for volatility crude oil is the best like usman88 mentioned but it is a bitch of a contract to trade. If you've never traded it before I'd strongly recommend trading it on a demo first. You can make a lot of coin on that beast as the leverage is quite high. You may want to...

Market makers make "deals" with the shorts??

Why is this so serious? It's actually common practice. Hedge Fund A calls Prime Broker and says, "I want to sell 500,000 XYZ short at said price. Can you get me the shares?" MM will go out on the market, and assume the risk of collecting the shares, and then provide them to Hedge Fund A at...

The New Math: Quantitative hedge funds are pressing into new realms of science

The market has definitely changed. The primary reason many funds have failed is because they were not able to adapt to changing market conditions. If the model is looking for an input of X and receives Y there will be trouble. Hedge Fund managers need to adjust their strategies when the input...

The New Math: Quantitative hedge funds are pressing into new realms of science

Hey MAESTRO, I wasn't trying to pee in your cup. Hope you didn't take it that way. I'm not ripping on Quants because I a fair amount of Quant work myself. I'm ripping on the folks who are criticizing those running through troubled times. Granted, these hedge funds should have had "what if"...

    $3,000,000,000,000 (trillion US $) cost

Agree gnome, this number is probably under-estimated considering China and other countries are financing the war. There is a time value of money cost that may or may not have been taken into consideration. Tax payers will be paying this debt for many years to come.

The New Math: Quantitative hedge funds are pressing into new realms of science

Why is it that people are so quick to criticize someone when they are down, even after racking up Billions in profits in years before? Other traders/investors seem to love seeing people fail, even if they are complete failures themselves. The thing about this guy? He'll be back and when he...

    strategy doesn't matter

Absolutely, positively agree with this terminator. One of the best posts I've read on ET. You put 2 people on the same chart and you'll get 2 different results. It's not the system that makes money, it's the trader who operates the system!

LOL. You have any idea how stupid that makes you sound? You "know the right people" at the SEC? CTFC? Your broker? Your Lawyer? Your Accountant? The compliance department with your clearing firm and/or broker? You know all these people and got them to "work the system" for you?

It will come in slightly worse than expected and the market will initially sell off but end higher. Buy the dip unless it is a catastrophic number like a month or so ago.

Identify ES trend daytrade..9:30-10AM (EST) volume..'fact or fiction'...best way is?

I think he charges $1495 for the indicator package. And it's free, lol. It's not the indicator that makes you the money, it's the trader. So many traders search for their edge thru following trends or finding "that" indicator. I see it over and over and over again. Your edge comes from...
