Wow ... 8 years for choosing the wrong answer to the question "paper or plastic?" Insane. Good article - thanks for posting.

Hardest and Most Valuable Things In Trading

Hardest thing(s): letting winners run and keeping losses small. That's because they both go against human nature. Most valuable thing: picking good entries consistently. If you don't have good entries even the best money management in the world won't save you.

Why you should average up, NEVER down

Averaging down can be risky business. But if you insist on doing it, here are several rules which I believe can help you avert disaster: 1) make sure your market is normally a mean-reverting instrument such as an index or broad ETF 2) make sure to scale widely enough to make your 2nd unit...

    three EMAs in trading system

Page 142 of that book explains the triple-MA system. Bear in mind the Turtles systems used daily bars and different MA periods than you mentioned, but the concepts would be the same. Stops are where the shortest period MA crosses back under (over) the middle period MA.

    three EMAs in trading system

You can read more about this type of strategy in Curtis Faith's book "Way of the Turtle". Like all common trend-following strategies it cycles in and out of favor over time. But you can find success with it if you stick with it until you catch the trends.

    Traders Health Insurance

Blue Cross just raised my individual plan premium 14%. Last year they raised it 15% from the year before. I've had barely any claims since I've been with them. Have you guys seen similar annual increases with your (other) carriers?

The full list that those come from is here: http://pals2u.tripod.com/id19.html Edit: I read somewhere that a daily dose of broccoli can cut your risk for colon and/or prostate cancer by 50%.

can you martingale at prop shops?

Interesting idea, but then in chop you'd have yourself quite a handful. The only way it would work IMHO is if you're lucky enough to double the account before you blow up, take out your original stake and continue to trade the system taking regular withdrawals from that point on. The problem...

    IB chart EMA

That's fine, to each his own. I trade mostly the indexes, so your approach may be totally different than mine. I just wanted to share with you my observation that more often than not the significant pivots/reversals that appear on an intraday chart occur at S/R points or TL's left behind from...

Poll Next Week Bias: A Crash Would Be Nice

On Friday ES reversed hard off the 20-day EMA, and Dow off the 200 in what looked like pretty organized selling. Unless those moves get erased in the next day or so, that would seem pretty bearish for the near term, IMHO.

Poll Next Week Bias: A Crash Would Be Nice

Opposite (strong uptrend day), or else churn 1 day before lower after that. Most likely the latter, unless major news hits this weekend, would be my bet.

can you martingale at prop shops?

Until you miscalculate and another 5/6 happens, only this time it doesn't rebound within that same day.

    pension funds

That's insane. No state should be paying retirement benefits to 40 year olds. Hell, I was kinda pissed when I heard recently that cops in my city get to retire at 55 with full benefits.

    Worst Wall Street Clichés

A cliche not necessarily from Wallstreet proper, but traders in general: "I violated my rules." ... (and the market violated me. ) Maybe your little rules sucked in the first place.

    IB chart EMA

Why would you not care about yesterday's closing price? ... or the prices in pre-market, for that matter? I'll use ema's on ES and YM in pre-market and after hours, and never would I want them distorted by negating the previous session's bars. Just curious about your need to have the ema...

    IB chart EMA

Here is the same USO chart from Bigcharts, a fairly reliable source IMHO. Obviously they and IB include the last "x" number of bars from the previous day in their "x"-bar EMA at today's open. I don't know how Yahoo smooths for the gap down ... seems like they automatically convert it to a...
