    'Discretion' in discretionary trading

I might compare disciplined discretionary trading to flying a jet airliner, in terms of the mix of discretion and "coding". You (the pilot) have your strategies, rules, guidelines, stops/targets, etc. (flight plan, regulations, procedures, ... even autopilot to use at some point). But before...

As long as we're on the subject of modesty, that loss NoDoji mentioned of hers a few posts back ... was about her only losing trade in several weeks. :D

She milks the market at will without the ATS. Trust me, I've seen it in real time for a while now. In fact your statement may be correct anyway. NoDoji has heard me express my slight doubt about whether a programmed version of her trading method can do as well as her discretionary...

Another case for the shorts tonight: technically speaking, ES has had 3 upside unfilled gaps in a row if you don't count cash gap fills or 1-tick near-misses. Actually by those standards 5 out of the last 7 sessions were unfilled upside gaps for ES.

Thanks for that reference. I see that Monday's overnight gap up was close to +20 before it rolled over. Also similar to this situation: the lead-in Friday's RTH range was very small (<8 handles). Friday 9/10's range was 7.50.

Two horrendous calls by financiers on the music industry

Is it just the record label EMI or the publishing side as well? Because EMI publishing is huge. Every time you hear an old song on the radio that's a few pennies in some publishing company's pocket (not literally, but it all depends). Plus there's music licensing, which can be huge for major...

Music industry's nightmare just shut down across 14 countries.

The moral argument against it: you are procuring for your own personal enjoyment a recording of a piece of music which cost money to create, and which others are required to pay for. What you are saying is "I deserve to have you (the artist and everyone else involeved - writers, producers...

Music industry's nightmare just shut down across 14 countries.

Yes, but unfortunately it's not that simple. There are also writers, producers, and publishers who don't have touring as an income stream who also need to earn a living.

How to "sit" on a position during a big move

You're basically talking about trying to catch the meat of long-term runners, Turtles-style. Therefore, why not use some of their exit techniques to help you stay in the trade? ... MA signals, std. dev. multiples, and the like. No matter what you use, obviously you can always get back in if...

    Vix

Not being fecetious, but .... supply/demand -? :) VIX options seem priced in line with other index options, and similarly VXX options seem priced comparable to those on other underlying ETFs and equities in that $18-25 range.

What happened to CL 9/6 am?

You may have mistakenly associated the "Sunday Sep 6" part with the rest of the quote. Bottom line, CL on Globex closes this afternoon at I think 12:15pm CT, and re-opens at 17:00 CT (this evening) for the start of the Tues. 9/7 session. Don't know why there's a "Tues. 9/8" reference. By...

    Vix

You can trade VIX options but not VIX directly, as it's an index. There is an ETF - VXX, which is a proxy trading vehicle for VIX.

2nd day gap rule in effect here (in case Pekelo hasn't mentioned it yet).

They need to keep it above 19.75 for the open. Otherwise it'd be a 3rd consecutive gap down with the first 2 being unfilled - - too easy a setup for the bulls at the open, statistically. This way there is more doubt, imho.

    Neeed Help i'm a newbie

This was my first thought exactly. No mistake about it - the art of losing (the right way) is perhaps the most important part of this game.

A few health tips for traders...

Agreed, although I much prefer the real thing (outside cycling) to the stationary bike. I try to ride at least 3-5 x's/week for the 6 months of biking weather we get here in northern Illinois. As old school as it sounds, I feel like the fresh air is as much a part of the equation as the...

The bull case I see that could override this starts with the fact that last week's low was pert'near 50% (to the tick) of the run up from the recent low made in early July. The market closed above the key round # 1100 (granted, on light volume) and appears to be forming a handle. Also there is a...
