Say you are Nassim Taleb and hyperinflation hits

Wow, I was wondering when this would happen. So this is actually interesting and I wonder if there is some predictive power to it. Right now people will hold short terms, but it seems 30 year is not on the map. So I am guessing the US is in trouble once they can't roll the short term. What am...

Will the EU Go After Goldmans?

I have been neither friend nor for of Goldman's, but with what I saw from ralph00 article, Goldman's is getting close to being toast! And you are right, maybe now the financial system can heal...

Will the EU Go After Goldmans?

I have been closely following the Greece situation, and today I read something where I think Goldman's better start getting the lawyers out. http://www.cnbc.com/id/35404500 "EU spokesman Amadeu Altafaj Tardio says the EU executive has given Greece an end-of-February deadline to give...

Collapse of the euro is 'inevitable' says French Banking Chief

Yupe... But interestingly the spread in FX is quite small. Usually about 2 pips, which is peanuts. I was expecting quite a bit more.

Collapse of the euro is 'inevitable' says French Banking Chief

Let's take it from the perspective of anybody that is not in Sterling. If Sterling falls by 30% with respect to my currency then that indeed is a 30% bond face value cut. In our fund we trade in USD, but have EUR, and GBP clients. We hedge the currency and then regardless of how the currency...

Collapse of the euro is 'inevitable' says French Banking Chief

I completely agree if Greece had its own currency it would be impossible for them to borrow. Then again I am guessing no buyer of bonds would ever go for Greek dominated bonds. They would want a "real currency" like the EUR, USD, GBP, etc. While I agree regarding your price adjustments, will...

Collapse of the euro is 'inevitable' says French Banking Chief

No they wont because there is very little economic interest in Greece. As sad as it sounds, outside of some debt there is nothing that interests the Germans in Greece. Whereas in Spain, Portugal and Italy there is quite a bit of interest. For example Seat is Spanish and owned by Volkswagen...

Collapse of the euro is 'inevitable' says French Banking Chief

This is crap! Get some facts before you spew ok! Want to know why German orange juice is so cheap and Greek not? Because German companies are highly efficient and automated. Germany is a king in food processing. I know because my brother works in the bottling industry and the efficiency they...

You know what blows me away about being a discretionary trader? How one slip....

Yupe I did miss that one. The diversification of a ATS automatically outdoes a discretionary trader.

Collapse of the euro is 'inevitable' says French Banking Chief

To makloda, the clubmed countries are not all alike. Like yourself I have been and lived there. Greece I think will default because the eurozone wants to teach then a lesson. Also the eurozone is annoyed that for the past decade goldmans yet again used financial engineering to hide things...

You know what blows me away about being a discretionary trader? How one slip....

I don't think an ATS has a profit advantage to a discretionary system. A good discretionary trader can make just as much money as a good ATS. However, an ATS has one advantage over discretionary... Reaction time! When you need to act fast an ATS can move ultra fast! I have seen it time...

    Delta Neutral trading

If I am not mistaken using B&S on the SPY will not be entirely correct. B&S is intended for dividendless, and European style options. SPY are American and pay dividend options. The exercise style of the option has nothing to do where the option is located.

Collapse of the euro is 'inevitable' says French Banking Chief

I find it funny that all of the people predicting a collapse of the Euro are the ones that have the most to gain? Time and time again I hear about how British and American analysts seem to understand the Eurozone and how it works. Hey here is a thought, maybe they don't! I have lived in...

    Bear Call spreads

Yes I am saying FX options sold as spreads are hard to do because they have wide bid-ask spreads. BUT, and this where I am guessing you don't have portfolio margin. If you sell a naked FX or commodity position then the initial margin can usually make about 10% return, with about 15%...

    Bear Call spreads

I think you are missing my point. The problem with FX options, and many of the commodities is that the bid ask spread tends to be very big and the skew of the bid and ask is quite high. So if you sell or buy whatever you are underperforming since the bid ask spread is making you buy or sell...

    Bear Call spreads

what you are missing is that to sell premium you sell naked. i do fx options all the time (eur and cad). though to do naked you need to use portfolio margin. otherwise the returns are not great.
