    Does automated trading really work?

Many hedge funds do use automated trading. Lets say everyone switched to automated trading. The top 20% best automated strategies would take money from the bottom 80%. Just because a strategy has been profitable in the past is no guarantee it will be profitable in the future. Markets...

I hope the OP comes back and makes more calls. I would like to take the opposite trade to each of his calls. Even after 20 years he seems to trade like a typical newbie trader who buys and sells at the wrong time, and abandons his stop loss discipline after a few losing trades.

    I just have one question

Dont fight the trend. You should be either long or neutral in this market, not short. The markets are being pushed up by two types, the longs mainly but also the short sellers like yourself who end up covering and pushing prices even higher.

He only ran off because his last trade was so far out of the money. Had it instead been $20,000 in the money he would still be here, although he probably wouldn't have let it ride to that much profit.

Rogue Trader Nick Leeson Has A New Job In Finance

Price drivers :D He had his own system, the Leeson Gambit: If the market doest move in your direction after you get in, you make it move using all the money you can get you hands on.

    Trend Following depends on Prediction

This is like saying black jack card counters predict the cards.. they dont.. the cards have been dealt in a certain way and the odds are now in your favour that future cards will fall as expected by probability. Trend following, you watch 10 markets, one starts to move so you follow it. The...

The OP seems to be doing nearly everything wrong. Very poor timing. No stop loss (or well defined exit strategy). In other words very poor risk management. Over position sizing. 10CL is pretty large position ($100 a tick), i wouldn't hold overnight a trade that size unless i had at least a...

will cl break 90 and drop to 86 ?

There is a guy called Marketsufer on another thread he is long 10 CL contracts from around 95. He is currently $20,000 out of the money. If it goes to 86 he will be down $90,000. He doesnt have a stop just seems to be praying for a rally now and planning to hold over the weekend...

How do hedge fund managers know who is doing the buying?

Because after Gekko got done buying his broker (Bud) called the wall street journal and said 'blue horseshoe loves Anacott Steel' and then everyone on the street knew :D

Market action on days in October 2008 were crazier than the movements we saw in the flash crash.

    Bill Gross of PIMCO

People complain about the market flash crash, 500+ pts down and up in a few minutes. Then others say its strange if the stock market acts orderly and peaceful through most of the day. Market is always changing its behaviour, like it always has. In the near future people will again be...

My over 6-year trading experience in a nutshell

Im sure if there is a trading coach out there who suckered the OP into paying $$$$ for 'coaching or training fees', they would be more than happy to lay on pizza party as he enters a new chapter in his life..

My over 6-year trading experience in a nutshell

Slippage and commission costs tend to get covered up in high volatility high profitability markets. But when the markets aren't so rich for the picking you wonder why you are spinning your wheels and getting nowhere, and slippage and commissions tends to be reason. An even bigger career...

My over 6-year trading experience in a nutshell

What did you want to do, make money every month?? Trading is feast and famine, like many other businesses. Would be nice to make money every month or even every quarter but thats not realistic, so you got to have that patient mindset, otherwise a trader will just get frustrated. But you...

My over 6-year trading experience in a nutshell

Mid 2007 to late 2009 were some of the best trading markets in history. Volatility was fantastic. 2010,2011, and 2012 were also not bad. So the last six years have been pretty good. 2005 and 2006 and first half of 2007 really sucked, but that was before your time. And the dotcom boom and...

    Staying humble

How do other traders stay humble and defensive after a long winning period in the markets? Losing periods eventually force humility and a defensive posture on the trader. But long periods of winning lead to a different state of mind. I eventually forget what trading very defensively was...

    Market charlatans

They all snake oil sellers. Anyone who sells systems, courses, websites, chat rooms, software, books etc. Trading is quite an easy subject to talk about and write about, but its one of the hardest thing to do. The easy and sure money is in selling spades and shovels, not in prospecting...
