    It's the oil burse, stupid!

Maybe your bank could be persuaded to speed up their loan approval process if there was an (unspoken) threat -- "our intelligence says that Osama Bin Forgotten is hiding in your head office and we might not be able to protect you from him unless you lend us some more money to pay last weeks...

    It's the oil burse, stupid!

I agree with your hypothesis. The major difference is that the USA doesn't actually own any of the oil that backs the USD. The power of the largest military the world has ever seen actually backs the value of the USD. When Al Capone did it, they called it a protection racket.

    It's the oil burse, stupid!

Officially at least, the USA has had a total trade embargo against Iran since the hostage crisis way back when. Any Iranian oil that arrives on US shores is illegal. (This is not to say that I believe that the embargo is being enforced). Seeing that Iran sells the vast majority of its oil...

Living on a boat and avoiding taxes

If you have any questions about why all those tax dollars are REQUIRED, this might give some clues http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdint.htm Don't know about you, but I hate paying interest on debt, especially when most of the debt was run up by a recently deceased president. There...

    EOD Data Source

I'm not disagreeing with you, but then why is Yahoo data so wrong so often? They claim the following "Historical chart data and daily updates provided by Commodity Systems, Inc. (CSI)."

    It's the oil burse, stupid!

Maybe Saddam's decision to write all those long term oil contracts in Euros was the real reason why they invented those Weapons of Mysterious Disappearance. All the other stated reasons have been proven to be lies.

Completely Different Results in Backtesting @ wealthlab and @ tradesignal.com!!!

Have you at least tested your system on something that is tradeable? It makes no sense to spend all this time optimizing on an index, only to find that you cannot reproduce it using DIA, or YM, or whatever. I can't tell you the number of systems I have seen with amazing results using SPX that...

Iran Enriched Uranium, Now its the Isreali Response, will they or wont they?

I wonder if all this war mongering might have something to do with trying to deflect attention from this upcoming trial http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/library/reports/2005/franklin_indictment_04aug2005.htm

IB - PLEASE stop those new "features"

It probably has something to do with the fact that it costs serious time and money to support more than 1 version. I would hate it if IB decided to increase my commissions to hire more techs to support multiple versions of TWS.

Iran Enriched Uranium, Now its the Isreali Response, will they or wont they?

As a signatory of the NPT, Iran is legally permitted to enrich as much uranium as they wish for civilian purposes. Despite all the sabre rattling in the "free" press, there is no evidence of anything other than a power station. There is no legal justification for the current demands to cease...

IB - PLEASE stop those new "features"

This is by design. Java is designed to defer garbage collection as long as possible. If there is lots of free RAM and no processes are thrashing, then the amount of memory consumed by the JVM will keep increasing until the heap grows to the maximum allocation or until the JVM or another...

Economic Implications of Iran having the bomb

An ever increasing oil (and consequently gold) price will give the overissued USD a boost in that foreigners will be forced to hoard even larger stockpiles to pay for their energy supplies -- until everybody gets tired of subsidizing the USA's profligate spending and make alternative...

Significant increase in petroleum prices, how?

Despite all the sabre rattling, Iran hasn't done anything wrong (yet). As a signatory of the NPT, Iran is legally entitled to enrich as much uranium as needed for peaceful civilian purposes. There is no evidence of anything other than a power station. Iran have signed the NPT and there is...

    Physical Delivery of Gold

The full month is not arbitrary. The key date for anybody who does not want to deal with delivery is the "first notice date". It varies by contract.
