Why would anyone share their secrets?

I'd go one step further and say that all analysis on its own right is worthless. It's the profitable application of that analysis which is important.

Why would anyone share their secrets?

Because when I was starting out, many people went out of there way to help me.

    Aggressive Systems Trading Drawdowns

Businessman, If you don't mind me asking, what type of system do you trade? Is it a trend following system or a mean reversion system or...?? Thanks, Nizar.

    I'm done trading. I FAILED

PumpandDumper. Trading a very serious business, and it should be treated as such. Those who don't have a clue what they are doing, will lose. Especially if you daytrade. This is only my opinion of course, but I think, especially for those starting out new, trading longer term is much...

Opinion of this method of developing strategies

That doesnt mean it cant be done. You (and me) just havent figured it out yet.

Opinion of this method of developing strategies

Are these different systems? If they are then you should look for the lowest correlation possible, which would be C. There is much to consider when evaluating a system. Profit factor alone is insufficient. You also need to know the win % and opportunity (trade frequency). Nizar.

    Taking Profits

I think profit taking exits have potential in intraday trading. Only because you are not focussing on increasing R/R. For short termers, R/R and win% don't need to be overly impressive. 1.2 and 60% and a decent amount of trade frequency/opportunity you are laughing. Because in short term...

    Taking Profits

Dear Bob, All the parameters that I use for my trading has been extensively backtested, and the stop I apply now is what works best over a large number of trades. If you take profits too quickly then you will never have a big winner. The 25% example could maybe go to 100% or 200% who...

    where/when to exit?

ATR = average true range. It takes into account the volatility of the stock. The 10 means that the ATR of the last 10 periods (in our case, weekly) in taken into the calculation. 2 means that the ATR is trailing the current price. So as the price moves up, the ATR stop will quickly move...

    where/when to exit?

Hi. I use a 2*ATR(10) trailing stop for the exit on my weekly trend following system for equities. Further details can be found on my blog. thetrendfollower.blogspot.com Best regards, Nizar.

    Taking Profits

The solution. Trail the stop. ATR/Chandalier stops i find work very well on my weekly trend following system. Not sure what you mean by almost all or most of the profit is wiped out by the time the trend changed. One of my winners Iv only been in the stock for 4 weeks its up about 25% and my...

    The Billion Dollar Club

Hi OnTrial. Oh i see. Is this system a short-term one or a long-term one? How many trades a year do you expect to be doing? Yes I think this will be a good start to record your trades on this forum. From what I can tell so far, there are a few big players here and a few Hedge fund...

    The Billion Dollar Club

Hi OnTrial, Why does it seem your position sizing is different for the above 2 trades? Which money management model are you using? And why is this thread called the billion dollar club. Do you want to turn your $100k into a billion dollars? That would take about 40 years if you can...

    Aggressive Systems Trading Drawdowns

Hi Businessman, How and when exactly do you increase or decrease your percent risk per trade? Dont tell me -- but make sure that YOU know. Just keeping the risk at a fixed percent is inherently sound money management because it already means you risk more (in dollar terms) when you are...

    Aggressive Systems Trading Drawdowns

Hi Businessman, You seem to have a sound approach to your trading. But let me comment on something. 5% risk per trade is not aggressive. 3% is aggressive. 5% in my opinion is SUICIDE. I certainly hope you have a really good win percentage otherwise a string of losses will easily...

    Trading Stats...

2 years is plenty. What bars do you use to trade off? I think you are making it very hard for yourself and will unneccesarily waste alot of time if you try to do this without getting software. Any serious trader has their system coded into a software where it can be easily tested. Well...

    Trading Stats...

When it comes to data more is better UNTIL you get to a point where the market dynamics have changed. As a rule of thumb, I personally think 500 points of data is what you need. This means if you are trading weekly thats 50 bars so 500 bars is 10 years. If you are trading using 15minute...
