    I am new

How about this play, assuming the PPS doesn't gap up or down on Monday? Buy the stock for about 44.65. Sell a 40 covered call for 7.35 (halfway between current bid/ask). Sell a 45/40 bull credit spread for 2.10. Total premium collected is 9.45. If the PPS stays between 40-45 the...

How to profit off Dawn of World War III?

Where's entrepreneurial spirit? Do like JP Morgan. Start a company that buys defective weapons at a discount, and sell them to the military.

Do you belieave in the Plunge Protection team?

I'm not trying to convince anyone. I don't even believe in a PPT. I was just trying to address your stupid little questions.

Do you belieave in the Plunge Protection team?

I think dandxg struck a nerve. I recall a couple of years ago some expert (sorry no link or details), while denying the existence of a PPT, saying it would be failry easy to manipulate the stock market by buying a relatively small amount of futures (as robertstone alluded to previously)...

    Housing Rolling Along 2

Not likely. People usually trade up when they have more equity in their house that they can use for a down payment on a new one. That depends on ever increasing prices. Don't think stock market. Think house of cards.

    Q's Straddle before FOMC

Dang, that long straddle would have been a great trade. I "closed" the call leg for +6.30, and now the put leg is ATM again. Could "sell" it now for 6.35, for a cost of 1.20, or wait and see what happens tomorrow and next week. I think I'll do it with real money a week before the next Fed...

    Is This Options Strategy Realistic?

OP, how do you set your stops? Have you read Van Tharp on money management/position sizing/etc? He seems to favor using volatility.

    How crazy is this?

Sorry, the cost for the original stock should have been 33.30 (35.00 - 1.00 - .70). I made a typo at first and kept repeating it. That's one reason I posted this, to have other people look at it. I have a degree in math, never could do arithmetic.

    How crazy is this?

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. The 35+35 mean that I paid 35 for the stock from having the original put assigned, and I'm assuming the new short put at 35 would also be assigned. The rationale for doing this would be to own the same number of shares that I do now, but at a...

    How crazy is this?

I did a put credit spread on a stock last month. I sold the long leg just before expiration and allowed the short put to be exercised. My cost basis for the stock was 33.10. I don't mind owning the stock as it pays a good dividend. I was thinking of selling a "strangle" where both legs are in...

Overall strategies - what works for you?

Actually, I never (again) write puts on a stock I don't want and can't afford to own. You are still better off than just owning the underlying stock at the price it was when you wrote the contracts. I'm trying writing a few Jan 07 LEAPS puts. I know a lot of more advanced people here don't...
