I do trade options. That's all I trade. I'm not happy about these new fees, but I'm trying to see how they can be worked around. They keep throwing new limitations and expenses at us, and we have to keep adapting the best we can.

You could leave the order open without cancelling, and not get charged. Anyhow, if you get the order filled at another price, that should refund the cancelled order charge. And if you have to, break your next order up so you get more executions to balance the cancellations.

    What are these IB fees?

It's only 12 cents for a stock order cancellation. Now it's going to be ten times that ($1.20) for a cancelled direct-routed options order. Direct-routed options commissions are already 95 cents more per contract than a smart-routed options order. I had the impression that that was because...

It's good that they notified us, in advance. Although as little in advance as possible. I had the impression that the reason direct-routed orders cost $1.95 was because of cancellation fees at the exchanges. What's the advantage to them of having us use smart? Wouldn't smart routing create...

the PDT rule needs to go

Prop means "proprietary firm". They are trading firms that allow you to trade with their money, and you split with them any profits you make. The Pro Firm topic in the Direct-Access Brokers category below is devoted to these types of broker firms.

How should the current PDT margin rules be fixed?

Margin rules should not be applied to trades of non-marginable items. Restrictions should not be based on number of trades. This restriction actually encourages people to make larger trades rather than make several smaller trades. And encouraging people to make larger trades increases their...

    You Can Do It

Actually my post was intended to psych up such as yourself. When you've had your fill of those posts intended to psych you out, and certain condescending attitudes toward you as a "newbie", you may see what prompted me to post this. Anyhow, I did post this note in the Psychology topic, I...

    You Can Do It

These are what I consider "tuning in, and turning on, to the market". Do these things. Know that in doing them you have the chance to succeed. Don't let yourself be psyched out by others telling you you can't possibly succeed.

    You Can Do It

I don't claim to be an "elite trader". There was no qualification exam to take in order to join this forum, other than to have a valid e-mail address. I don't intend to hold myself up as something I'm not, or claim to have accomplished things I have not accomplished. What motivated me to make...

    You Can Do It

There's such a thing as "psyching yourself up". The opposite expression used is not "psyched down" but "psyched out". They do this stuff in sports all the time. They use cheerleaders to psych the team up, and war-chants to psych the other team out. The same thing happens with stock...

i hate when tv shows try to explain why the dow is up 4 points

The news agencies play pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey to explain why the stock market moved one way or the other. "Markets headed lower on lower earnings from Cisco . . . ." Well, how do you really know it was Cisco that caused the whole market to drop? And when it reverses halfway through...

    Newb Question

Options don't really move in relation to the percent move of the stock. It's more in relation to the actual dollar amount the stock moves. The option usually moves from 25% to 80% of the dollar amount the stock moves, depending how close it is to expiration and how much the stock price is...

    Who accepts me, a daytrader?

With all due deference, I don't know what the "other issues to consider were", but I sure think that if IB representatives had made any kind of appearance on IB's own discussion forum, to offer some explanation and response to customer inquiries the last month, you wouldn't be in the position...

    Low options commisions

I think you mean options on 500 to 1000 shares of stock. An options contract covers 100 shares of stock. So if you're trading options on 500 to 1000 shares of stock you would only be trading 5 to 10 options contracts. If this is what you mean, Interactive Brokers is most likely the...
