1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Finally a native (better written ;) English article about the new FTT developments in Germany yesterday: Tobin Tax for Europe, Merkel climbs aboard (of course this would actually mean 'Eurozone' now, instead of 'Europe' ;)

It sure could be that the FDP will vote against if necessary, but it doesn't matter, because ALL the other parties in parliament will vote in favor (yes it's ridiculous), so the FDP would be overruled by the largest majority possible (even the party itself is divided). The only way for the...

(it's just Google translation, nothing special ;) But to be honest, i think that, with that tremendous amount of pressure, FDP can't hold his position much longer. They can't afford to have new elections with only 2% in the polls. I guess that if all other EZ countries could agree with the...

Ok, it seems that the idea of this stamp duty, is indeed only coming from FDP, and has no support whatsoever from Merkel. So it most likely won't have any impact. http://www.augsburger-allgemeine.de/wirtschaft/Merkel-treibt-Finanzsteuer-voran-id18372661.html

And another one: Even without FDP financial transaction tax is coming As if Italy, Malta, Ireland etc. don't exist anymore..

Is it really true that Merkel supports the idea of Rösler about this stamp duty tax? Because after reading some German articles, it seems to me that this idea of Rösler is just a (last) act of desperation to stop the introduction of the FTT in EZ. It seems that Merkel doesn't care about FDP...

Dutch public support for FTT isn't so strong as it is in eg. Germany. I think Dutch PM just doesn't have the guts to speak out loud his opinion (which actually is a big NO), anxious he is as Mr. Nice Guy to disappoint Merkel and Sarkozy. I guess he is hoping that this thing will pass over...

I'm not sure if Merkel also really said that, but it would be very unwise if she did. As to the article you mentioned yesterday, it wasn't Merkel, but the co-chairman of the most leftist opposition party who said it. From him this would be no surprise ;) I don't know German politics very...

Also encouraging news from Germany today: FDP seems not to be impressed by the provocations of Merkel's party yesterday. Homburger (FDP): "Financial Transaction Tax in the Euro-zone does not make sense" (Google translation)

The FDP experiences pressure from all sides (german) now, but so far they still don't bend: Brüderle: FDP rejects tax on financial transactions without Britain But this quote from your article worries me a little: Ok, it's from a leftist chairman, but could this mean that the 'only...

One of the best independent articles on FTT I've read so far. Extensive, well-argued, unbiased article, and much worth to read. Fortunately it's in German, because especially all those stubborn German FTT proponents really should read this...

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/12/business/global/italy-backs-financial-tax.html?_r=2 Is this true, and would he really agree in an EZ-FTT, or is it just a bad translation from a lazy journalist? There is also Ireland news: http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0113/britishirishcouncil.html...

As i was afraid of, Philipp Rösler experiences more resistance, even from his own party: http://www.stern.de/politik/mehr-fdp-stimmen-fuer-finanzsteuer-1772811.html What a roller coaster week this is.

I still have hope Philipp Rösler will persist in rejecting the EZ-FTT in Germany. But if he doesn't succeed, and they also would make the FTT part of the renewed treaty, that would be an extremely bad situation.
