Just realised a mistake in the math ...obviously couldn't buy 952 options but only $1000 / ($1.05 * 100) = ~9 options So profit should be; (9 * 100) = 900 shares 900 * ($157 - $155) = $1800 profit Not quite as attractive now!

If one thought that the SPY may drop 10% by 12/30/13, selling a put option seems to make sense. Currently bid is $1.05 for the 12/30/13 SPY Put with a strike of $157 ( about 10% lower than current trading) so for a investment of $1000 one could buy ~952 options ( $1000 / $1.05 = 952 )...

So much bad news coming out but the markets really are not selling off that hard. If fact we have seen a couple of nice up moves in the last few days. Maybe these are the lows unless something really unexpected happens over the weekend with Greece. I had expected the market to be selling off...

Could you post a chart showing the entry bar for each trade? It sounds like you're entering the market a couple of bars after the swing hi/lo. Just wondering where the entry/stop/exits are.

I agree that volume spikes can be very reliable. You have to use such a technique with care though as you can get burnt by trading possible reversal signals from spikes in a strong intraday trend. I think the article mentioned this.
