    straddles a sure thing?

I guess I'm looking at trades from the underlying price-action instead of IV. Seems that the "cause" is the underlying price and the "effect" is IV? Is there an indicator that measures the relationship between the underlying price-value vs. IV in an option? And would that be something worth...

Main Causes of the Great Depression

Yeah, they were partially responsible for things getting as bad as it did once the snowball started rolling downhill, but the Fed didn't start it. Check out "The Creature from Jekyll Island" by Griffin for more background on the Fed and Depression era.

    straddles a sure thing?

So are you saying I should sell OTM straddles then? Take advantage of stagnating prices and just collect the premiums?

    straddles a sure thing?

I shot myself in the foot and limited my gains in the recent cocoa kamikazi dive by setting up the following spread on 7/10: 2-long Sep-1750 puts = -1400 2-short Sept-1650 puts = +600 --------------- net = -800 after the fall, I closed out the spread: bought 2 Sept-1650 puts = -2400...

    The Ferrari of LCD's!!!

I'm sickened that Ferrari sold out in licensing their name & logo to such crap. There's also a laptop with nice carbon-fibre finish: Looks nice, performance is sub-par for the price as you're paying for the name & logo. :( Personally I think the Ferrari of LCD screens is this Apple...

    Averaging down...

Yeah, scaling is actually the opposite of averaging-down. Let's say a stock is dropping and you buy more to lower your average-cost. And it continues to drop and you lose even more money. Scaling is the opposite in that you're placing trades that's profitable. So as the stock drops, you'd be...

Computer Spyware, Virus Scanner, etc.- which ones?

I like the AVG antivirus package. Much more trim memory footprint than McAcfee or Norton and doesn't bring your computer to a crawl when it's scanning. Virus def. updates occur quicker too when something comes out. Then for spyware, I've got the Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

    Series 7

It's a strange test really. Most of it is options, but once you get licensed as a stockbroker and work in a firm, you'll deal with options maybe 0.05% of the time. But, it's a piece of cake if you've got any actual trading experience, best training really. Then it's just a matter of brushing...

    trailing stop loss vs limit

Is the trailing-stop an order with the markets? Or is it a function of the software that continually sets a new stop order and cancels the old one as prices move up? "The little info I have is that is that the order executed with the stop loss is a market order. The limit order is based on...

    (Why) do most traders lose?

Well, I think there's a difference between short-term "losing" which is part of the game, vs. long-term "failure". This is what I think Kiwi_trader meant when he made the original post. Failure can mean not meeting your end-goals in trading, be it self-sufficiency, or making X-percentage return...

    short futures-options credited automatically?

Thanks for the suggestion. :) I was planning on moving my account once I built up enough capital to qualify for the more inexpensive outfits. Who's got the best rates for $10k, 50k, 100k accounts? I'm strictly doing options for now to limit my losses. I'm not so active that the commissions...

    short futures-options credited automatically?

I'm using PFG and commissions are $25/roundturn. But they ended up nickel & diming me misc. fees up to about $32. Seems the best I could find for my small start-up account of $3000. Options in the account isn't marginable, so I've got to have all cash available for long positions. Interesting...

    short futures-options credited automatically?

Hi folks, I've got a question on how short OTM options are credited. Are they automatic or do I still have to explicitely buy the options back to close them out? About 3-weeks ago I shorted a lot of Aug-06 260-calls on corn and they expired 7/21 just out of the money. My statement Friday...
