Experienced traders - which prop is best?

Lol I seriously laughed out loud! Lol I'm not sure what sort of "research" you do, but I'm struggling to see how a S7 Is part of a "successful" trading plan? Do you mind outlining how exactly it improves your positive expectancy or profit factor lol? I wonder how Paul Rotter did on his...

Experienced traders - which prop is best?

It was not that long ago when I did my undergrad so I've got no real desire (or time) to study and sit an exam.

Experienced traders - which prop is best?

Bigpapi, Are there really "hundreds" of reputable prop firms in NYC that offer: -20:1 intraday leverage. -Remote trading. -Allow me to automate my system. -No series 7 required. ?? I've looked at a fair few and so far my shortlist has a grand total of three. I will contact the...

Experienced traders - which prop is best?

Hi Cactus, Thanks for the info. Would you be able to mention a few firms in the NYC area that you think fit the bill? I'm after reputable firms that have been around a while. Cheers. Nizar.

Experienced traders - which prop is best?

Hi, Just wondering which non series 7 requiring firms offer the best deals for experienced traders? Being experienced, obviously I don't want to have to pay for "training" and I can offer the 12 months of trading records that is usually requested by the firm. A New York location would...

The dumbest reason in the world to buy a stock is because it's going up

+1. The OP clearly knows nothing about trading. The whole essence of trend following is to buy breakouts and/or uptrends. How much money is invested in trend following CTAs? Ralph Vince's most recent book has a good section on trend following. Its a proven technique. Not something...

    Do markets change? Trend Following.

Though I should say that solid trend following systems should of course outperform random entry systems, as you look for breakouts or uptrends. I personally look for breakouts in established uptrends. My point was that random entry systems don't fare as badly as you think, and that most of...

    Do markets change? Trend Following.

I've tested random entry myself, though it was years ago, when i was first getting started in systems design. The results suprised me. Do you have Amibroker? Its pretty easy to do it with Ami I think. I can run a test for you but will probably have to wait until the weekend, very busy...

    Access to emerging markets

Hi, I'm thinking trend following strategies would work nicely in stocks in growing economies, like emerging markets. The BRIC countries would be nice but I think to shift the risk/return curve higher you can even look beyond these. I have no problems getting historical data for testing...

    Do markets change? Trend Following.

I agree wholly. The reason I mentioned W% is because its the only way to quantify or see if there is any edge in the entry. Of course there doesn't have to be an edge in the entry for a method to have a positive expectancy.

    Do markets change? Trend Following.

Jez. You would be how good random entry actually is. Run a few tests. I would post some here but on the work computer at the moment. Hit rate has nothing to do with size of gains or losses. Average win size in relation to average loss size is the payoff factor. But you already knew...

    Do markets change? Trend Following.

I agree. Trend following systems have no "true edge" so to speak in terms of their entry. That is why the hit rate on trend following systems is often less than 50% Trend following systems only make money from their trade management (ie. cutting losses and letting winners run). But there...

But I for one have difficulty in believing that a system can be designed to be eternally profitable. AFJ Garner. Have you looked at the work done by Nassim Taleb and Benoit Mandelbrot?

Mike, Thanks for your thoughts. 3-5% sounds reasonable. Obviously, less is better.

    Do markets change? Trend Following.

I agree. People just have to learn to accept that drawdowns and periods of poor performance are just part of ANY system. Eg. Renaissance went through a period of poor performance earlier this year. Paul Tudor Jones has had some very average years. Bill Dunn started off with a 50% drawdown.
