    Calmar ratio 2674

The book is about my process to develop a strategy for really any instrument - stocks, futures, forex, etc. Of course there are nuances for each group. BUT, that said, options are definitely the hardest, given the extra variables involved (strike prices, different expiration dates) and the...

    Calmar ratio 2674

I never understood the fascination with winning percentage. Mathematically it is irrelevant, and psychologically it can easily do more harm than good.

    Calmar ratio 2674

If all I knew was 3 months of performance and nothing else, I'd say odds favor luck (but of course it could be skill). But if you have years of good performance, then odds might favor skill (but even then it still could be luck).

    Calmar ratio 2674

That is good, and I assume your accountant checked with brokerage, too - people have been known to fake them. I would not put too much weight in performance this year, although it is good. A lot of traders who were bears suffered the past few years, until this year. You might want to look at...

    Calmar ratio 2674

So you accountant got complete access to ALL of this trader's trades and records? That is pretty remarkable in and of itself.

System results depending on market hours

IMO, 6 months is just not long enough to evaluate a strategy.

System results depending on market hours

I would look at TF from 2016 and 2017, since RTY was not around for some of that time.

System results depending on market hours

That looks like a standard Tradestation chart. It really should say "Net Profit/Loss" since it does not include your initial starting equity in it. They decided "Equity" was the proper word, I guess.

System results depending on market hours

I assume you are meaning Central time, which would put 8:30-9:00 as the first half hour of the stock market day. It could be that with your approach that the "opening" period acts a lot different than rest of day - hard to say why. Have you tested it for a longer period of time than just last...

You guys blowing out your accounts left and right

Absolutely! I can't tell you how many people tell me they want to trade for a nice secondary income, or just to make a few extra bucks. As if the money is raining down, and they just need a bucket to catch some! It is as crazy as saying "I'm going to perform surgery on the side for some extra...

You guys blowing out your accounts left and right

Unfortunately for many of us (myself included), the only way to really learn is/was by blowing out an account or two (not necessarily down to zero, but low enough not to be able to trade). It is a stupid way to learn, as many others have said. Much better to learn before jumping into the...

    Standard Deviation

I use standard deviation of price in some of my automated strategies. So it can work. But I also have plenty of strategies that I created with standard deviation in them that did not work. So, for me, standard deviation is something to try, but it is not a "must have."

    Using IB with TradeStation

Basically, you need a software bridge to connect Tradestation to Interactive Brokers. There are a few commercial packages to help you do that. I currently route some of my strategies to a non-Tradestation broker (not IB, although the setup is generally the same). I use NinjaTrader for this...

    High Risk High Reward Trading

I am not trying to be a jerk, but I am trying to understand your approach. You have been trading this live for 18 months roughly, and you say that you did not include any slippage in your backtest because it would just be an estimate. Yet you have 18 months of real results to calculate...

    High Risk High Reward Trading

I would think having even a rough estimate of slippage included would be better than none. True, backtesting is only an estimate, but you used those backtest results to determine that 4% is a safe risk amount. But maybe when you include slippage, 3% would be a better risk amount. It might be...

    High Risk High Reward Trading

I am curious, what is the reasoning behind not accounting for slippage in your backtest?

Do I have to keep TradeStation Workshop/Desktop Open?

If your strategy is running on your home PC, you need to leave it on for the strategy to execute. You could leave it running at home, and use a remote desktop app like Splashtop to monitor while you are away...

screengrabs for some strategies i have developed.

Ugh, I feel sorry for you OP. Nothing more frustrating to work on something, only to find that some flaw/issue makes all the conclusions and results useless. For probably the first 5 years I used Tradestation, I trusted nothing except standard time based bars, and market orders (no stops, no...

    Anyone here took Davey's course?

Thanks for sharing. I have noticed that holds in many futures markets (higher vol >> more profit). I have played around with creating vol type "indexes" for other markets, although I never really found something I liked enough to use. Perhaps it is time for me to re-examine that...
