    ZNGA dying off

Zynga’s biggest hit by far was Farmville but now that that’s gone there’s nothing left. Wouldn’t touch them with a thousand foot pole…

Cool blog, just discovered it. Any additional posts coming down the pipeline soon?

Barclays, Traders Fined $487.9 Million by U.S. Regulator

That’s an insane penalty – I think the US is trying to send a message to big banks to keep their trading above board. My hunch though is that Barclays will appeal and get that significantly reduced.

    UK is broke

Britain wasn’t perfect but a lot of countries suffered from them leaving. I think any country with that insanely high amount of influence over the whole world is never a good thing. Global empires are usually eventually disastrous.

    Trading as a Science Blog

The debate on this is awesome. For me, it all boils down to this – can we trust our automated trading systems? If we can, why? It could be that we study them scientifically or it could be that we’re just darn lucky. I suppose that can go either way…

    EA breakout watch

Interesting… any fundamental reason why this might be the case?

“You see, the medicine will become the poison.”

This is possible but I somehow doubt it. Inflation may happen but I’m not sure the Fed’s QE practices will be the death of everyone.

The Last Mystery of the Financial Crisis

I agree. Ratings agencies do little but to freak out investors or make them go all in on bad stocks. The problem is that the average investor just looks and says “oh, Moody’s thinks the stock will rise 50% this year, I should buy”. They don’t learn to read the financials, learn what goes...

Money and Speed: Inside the Black Box

Very interesting documentary. Thanks for posting it.

Why are equities and bonds declining simultaneously?

Agreed, let QE end now. I know it will be painful, but it’s better to stop artificially propping up the markets sooner rather than later.

Quote: "Trading is a teachable science, not an innate talent."

Teachable… Maybe… I sort of agree with the quote. It’s not a talent per se, but I don’t know if I’d classify it as a science either. Can it be lumped in with, say, physics?

Citigroup Facing $7 Billion Currency Hit on Dollar, Peabody Says

$7 billion is a decent hit to Citigroup if this comes true. However, from the article it says that last time he projected $3-$5 billion and they had a $1.6 billion loss instead. So we’ll see… Could be time to think about going short on C.

Any good book for learning trading system programming?

While you might argue trading isn’t an exact science I think you can apply a tremendous amount of analysis and thought that makes it at least as much of a science as psychology is. That is if you’re interested in sitting down and analyzing the markets, backtesting, building strategies, and...

Tech Stock $AMD Heading For Another Trifold? : (NYSE:AMD) Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

I’ve also been looking at AMD and no idea that Goldman downgraded it… They make good processors IMHO but the problem is that they have terrible marketing and Intel screwed them over.

College professors complain their jobs are being taken by online education.

Interesting… Online education does have some benefits though. For one thing it can be expanded to international students. Seems like if they marketed it right, professors might not need to lose jobs because each school might be able to get more students.

Student loan debt tops $1 trillion

Intriguing thought… A world without credit would be an interesting one to say the least. I think a lot of prices would come down in general and people would be forced to have a reserve pile of cash without any form of credit.

How can we improve our trading skill ?

I just looked up Jack Schwager, hadn’t seen any of his books before. Any one his books you’d recommend in particular? I’m looking to start gaining multiple perspectives on trading – I’m reading into the markets but I feel like I might be a bit closed in my thinking.

    FED and Inflation

Just wanted to interject here and say this thread is awesome. The Fed’s actions are really beginning to have a significant impact on the markets and people so it’s good to see discussion about it. I just wish there was more discussion amongst Americans in general about it.

How can we improve our trading skill ?

I like the idea of psychic powers for discretionary trading. But yeah, most people trade on emotion and speculation. The only money is through the scientific trading but that’s a lot harder to really do well

Student loan debt tops $1 trillion

Too big of a bubble. Stop the loans and let’s see what people will really pay for an education. Bet it wouldn’t be more than $20k then.
