    Long stock long more gold

I had to close all my precious metal positions (GC, SI, PL) last week as they became too extended from their averages (by my measures). Should that change I'll either buy them back in a couple of months (possibly much higher) or short them should they drop significantly.

The US at its pinnacle, 1953 Time magazine

Goto Zillow. I looked around Chicago and Seattle just for kicks. A ton of homes @ 1200-1400 sqft, 3 BR going for around 175-225k. A 30 year fixed mortgage can easily be paid off by a single worker living within their means, unless (obviously) they lose their job or become sick. The difference...

    Excel 14's Release Date

Does anyone have any first thoughts testing the Excel 2010 technical preview or beta? I'm wondering if the 64 bit version has any performance improvement on large spreadsheets (+10 mb)?

The US at its pinnacle, 1953 Time magazine

The avg. home in 1950 was what, 1200-1300 sqft? (http://www.infoplease.com/askeds/us-home-size.html) The same tiny homes today still only require one working to meet mortgage obligations.

    Dubai effect starting to spread

I think this isn't so much about Dubai itself, but it is reminding everybody that there are several unsolved "Icelands" and "Dubais" out there. E.g. Greece, Cyprus, Latvia, Hungary, Ukraine. If it was just Iceland or Dubai it's one thing. But what if you multiply it by a factor of 10? Who's...

    The FDIC is broke.

Unfunded obligations (Social Security/Medicare and Medicaid) do not equal national debt. Do your homework. Did you check the unfunded obligations of the European Union? Might change your mind on your EUR idea

    The FDIC is broke.

US government doesn't have 62 trillion in debt. Far from it. US national debt 2008 is approx 10 trillion, 70% of GDP. Nothing to write home about.

dubai glich.. up 250 or down 250 on the open?

Maybe maybe not. I'll go short a dozen or so Russell 2k's into today's close just in case this time is different, you never know. Can always cover with a small loss
