    Bye-bye Gaddafi-Hello al Qaeda

It seems al Qaeda has made its way into Libya; see the photo of its flag flying along with the Libyan rebel flag over the Benghazi courthouse. Did al Qaeda get NATO do the heavy work for it? Let the real war begin to see who controls Libya and its oil/gas fields...

    ET'rs Budget Committee

I think your comment reinforced the point of the article. You and I don't want to give up what we paid for. The article's point is that most of the Govt. spending is sending checks and not gettting something in return; ie, SSN. Seneca

    ET'rs Budget Committee

Read it and weep: "Political dysfunction is often blamed for Congress’s inability to curb the U.S. budget deficit. An even bigger obstacle may be the American public. A record 49 percent of Americans live in a household where someone receives at least one type of government benefit...

    ET'rs Budget Committee

AK, I agree Defense needs to be cut-there is so much waste. I forgot to add the one item both parties agree on: cut the stupid $5 billion/yr ethanol subsidy. Seneca

    ET'rs Budget Committee

It appears that the "super committee" is having trouble coming up with $1.2 trillion in cuts. I'd like this thread to come up with ET's list. At some point, I'll forward the ideas to my Senators and Congressman. For example: 1. Let Medicare negotiate drug prices-saves about $20...

    It's Over Rick

    P. J. O'Rourke Quotes "The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it." Seneca

    It's Over Rick

Interesting that a lot of us like Newt-I'm the same and think Newt would likely make the best President of the Republicans running. However, he seems to shoot himself in the foot all too often. Looks like it will be Mittens vs. Cain as Perry fades. Anyone thinking Christie might be...

    It's Over Rick

I think it is time for Rick Perry to throw in the towel. He is sinking in the polls and is close to inept in the debates. Further, his staff hinted today that he might skip some future debates. Finally, he trails Newt in the latest NH polls...

    Perry's Flat Tax

I'm amazed at how many people who file using 1040ez have HR Block, etc do it for them. I know the guy who runs the local office and he tells me over half their business is very simple returns. I doubt Perry's plan will cut his business; probably it will increase it. Seneca

    Perry's Flat Tax

Perry today unveiled his tax plan: "The Texas governor’s plan, dubbed “Cut, Balance and Grow,” would allow taxpayers to choose between the current system and a 20 percent flat tax on their income. The new tax system, he said, would allow people to dispense with the hiring of experts...

    Global Warming confirmed, skeptics speechless

IMO, the earth was warming on its own: the last ice age ended some 11500 years ago, the earth then started getting warmer and has ,with some periods of cooling such as the Younger-Dryas and Little Ice Age, intervening; but to me the overall trend is warmer. The CO2 lag (usually about 800...

    Global Warming confirmed, skeptics speechless

The chart is somewhat self-explanatory: ie-when the temp gets to about +2C it declines into a region where there is an ice age. Many scientists are coming up with theories why this happens (with dilution of the thermohaline circulation with fresh water from glacier melt being common). I don't...

    Global Warming confirmed, skeptics speechless

When discussing science, I like data. The ice core record you refer to is the Vostok Ice Cores going back about 0.5 million years. Looking at it shows to me that we are near or at the tipping point where the trend of temperatures declines and an ice age comes. Seneca
