Best Tax set-up for Futures trader???

Lwlee, when one is trading Section 1256 Assets (example: regulated futures contracts), it doesn't matter whether they are a trader or not, the Mark to Market treatment is MANDATORY. It is not ELECTIVE.

Best Tax set-up for Futures trader???

A lot of dangerous erroneous information being thrown around here. I would like to address a few of them. 1) You don’t file for trader status with the IRS. Either you are a “trader” or you’re not, depending on your individual facts and circumstances. And there is no way to ask for...

SideshowBob, you indicate that you have made the MTM election, yet you are concerned about saving on professional tax advisory fees. There are some complex features associated with the MTM election. If one is inclined to do it themselves, they might consider doing their own colonoscope also...

I have read this entire thread. TraderStatus is the only one here worth listening to. Most of the other "advise" is dangerous. Bob

If I think AAPL is going to 100 by Feb. end, whats the best options play?

I just looked at the chain for AAPL Feb 90C...bid 1.05; ask 1.10, delta in the .27 range. Two questions: 1. Can you share with us your reasons for concluding that the stock is greatly oversold? 2. What is your exit strategy? I have no opinion regarding either 1 or 2, above. Just...

Mav, thank you. Sorry if I misinterpreted your use of the word "edge". Somehow I came away with the impression that you were using this word in a competitive sense. No doubt that you and I both learned a long time ago that whether or not someone else is making or loosing money is totally...

Mav, I've been a big fan of yours ever since I read that you said that among the mos successful traders you know were the directional traders. (Not your exact words, but close). Therefore, in looking at your answer to my last posting, I wonder why if fundamentals help me with he direction more...

Don and Mav, Part Deux! (Live Chat)

I am big on fundamentals. I look for real news...preferably negative news. I then ask myself if this is something management can fix quickly. If the answer is no, I do a negative directional long term play. When a company's stock is doing poorly, I look at the Balance Sheet, particularly...

    GE is a short imo

For the record GE last went Ex-Div on Dec 21, so that should not be a problem until somewhere after mid March. I love to short stocks. One significant exit signal I keep my eye on is if a positive candle closes above the 5 day SMA, and is confirmed the next day. Bob

If I think AAPL is going to 100 by Feb. end, whats the best options play?

Here's a follow up to my posting yesterday where I mentioned the March 90/100/110 Call Fly. At the time I said the debit would be around $1.80, but if AAPL went down one might be able to shave 10 or 15 cents off the price. For the record, I filled this order to open this morning. Net debit...

    Trading and Dating

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw recently. A gentlemen takes his date home and at her front door she says to him, "I had a wonderful time tonight and I'd love to invite you in. But trading on the Tokyo market starts in 10 minutes."

If I think AAPL is going to 100 by Feb. end, whats the best options play?

Verbot, I have no idea where AAPL is going. Hope I didn't give the impression it would be pinned at 100 or any other number. That stock is as wild as any. The $100 as the middle was in response to the title of the thread. While I haven't looked up the numbers for the 95/100/105, that...
