    Fundamental Analysis

Spot on Don. I agree 100%. It doesn't matter what your time-frame is, if you buy a fundamentally strong company with an upward bias, or a weak company with downward spiral, you are ahead of the game. Now you understand the price action and can be confident.

    Fundamental Analysis

Because fundamental analysis give you a better vision into the price movement that is happening. Is the price movement "random" or is it driven by some underlying force. For instance, a declining retained earnings along with an increasing debt to equity ratio tells you that a company is...

    Fundamental Analysis

My own personal order of importance: Number 1: Learn what a statement of cash flows is. "Cash flow" is potentially the most important tool. Number 2: Learn the balance sheet. Learn about leverage vs. equity. Learn ratios that use the balance sheet, such as current ratio, debt to equity...

    Finanacial index bull market indicator

The next 2 weeks are going to be critical. If KRE survives above its low of Jan 22, it will be the longest period of time that it has floated above a "new low" since the end of 2006. This could be the beginning of the financial recovery. "Officially", I won't consider the recovery in full effect...

AMD is it playable at this level?

There were a number of reasons. First of all, as another poster pointed out, Intel did do some predatory practices. They did threaten their suppliers to not sell AMD components. They also slashed the prices on their chips to below cost because they knew AMD wouldn't be able to compete at those...

AMD is it playable at this level?

btw...Penryn wasn't supposed to be this "revolutionary" product. Their marketing people (which Intel does extremely well: see the clockspeed scam) may have pushed it that way, but Intel always releases an improved version of a similar architecture already released in between times waiting for...

AMD is it playable at this level?

So you agree then that the transistor size is not the only large difference between Intel's new architecture and AMD's? :p I also have to completely disagree that it was "luck" on Intel's part. Intel was fully, fully aware of why the AMD architecuter was superior. They went completely back...

AMD is it playable at this level?

Intel and AMD are not separated by just a "20 nanometer" difference. Up until 2004, AMD had a superior architecture. Intel had the CISC instruction set and AMD had a RISC architecture. Intel with the Pentium IV had serious problems with how their frontside bus was a complete disaster in...

AMD is it playable at this level?

AMD has no cash. Where are they going to get the funding from to open the plant? They are leveraged to the max.

AMD is it playable at this level?

My how times have changed. Just about 3 years ago, AMD had Intel at the tipping point. All they had to do is to give them one more push and AMD would have started the avalanche to supremacy.

Paychex (PAYX) continues record earnings streak

Because the economy has been rough. PAYX is heavily correlated with the health of the economy. When the economy rebounds, PAYX should jump pretty fast back up into the $40 range.

    Is contrarianism too mainstream?

True contrarians don't play a contrarian move just because it went against the "tide". They make moves when the market tells them greed or fear is being obsessed by the general population. In other words, you don't short in a bull market just because it's up. You short when there is no good...

Feels Like one of those days

ooops...sorry about that. I'm one of the traders that buys every time the financials and real estate releases bad news. :D I buy dips and sell spikes. But I'm always adding more than I'm selling while waiting for the final bottom. It works great in that I'm constantly lowering my average cost...

Also released with market closed: BAC may take 6.5 billion loss

Which btw...if they do do this writedown, it will be a screaming buy as every specuator that knows nothing about balance sheets will be shorting the house on BAC. Bring on the lemmings!

Also released with market closed: BAC may take 6.5 billion loss

Your title for this thread is misleading. You do realize that they are considering a provisional writedown. In layman terms, that only means that they might consider taking a paper loss in anticipation of potential future losses. It doesn't mean they actually are taking a 6.5 billion loss.

    Finanacial index bull market indicator

I should have been more clear actually. Yes, I'm preferring the banking sector as a more accurate indicator. The reason I say that is since KRE holds more of the banking sector, it also represents the more stable picture of the financial sector. IMO, the banking sector has higher quality...

    If the USD is intervened...

Read up on "J-Curve". Basically, the J-Curve theory states that when there is a currency devaluation, initially things get worse before they improve when you have a trade deficit. You see a sudden depreciation in the exchange rate even as exports rise. Eventually though, after this "spike down"...

    Finanacial index bull market indicator

Ok, I have a theory that I'm going to test out. Basically, it's a well known fact that in the beginning stages of a bear market, the financials are usually the first to kick the bucket. Which makes sense because usually near the bull market peaks, liquidity usually gets constrained by high...

    Wall St. Job Market Crumbling

That's what I'm doing. I have an associate's in Computer Science, a Bachelor's in Software Engineering, I'm finishing up a Master's in Finance in May, and I plan on "gutting" it one last time and getting an MBA in accounting...and all this while I'm working a full-time Software job. Yeah...my...

Anybody hold FXP over the weekend?

FXP likes to gap. I wouldn't be suprised to see it gap up 10 points and then fade back down.
