The decision is cost versus features. Does the software have the features you want? One of the partnership accounting programs I mentioned will be great if you are setting up a hedge fund as a limited partnership, but won't be so good if you are a CTA managing separate accounts. Think about...

That's a big "if" unless you already have those investors lined up. Otherwise what you say sounds good. Good luck!

You can check the NFA website for their fees. I think it is $200 to register with the CFTC and then $1000 per year for your NFA membership. If you prepare your own ddoc and management agreement and do your own bookkeeping, those won't cost you anything.

I wouldn't think another on-site backup would be necessary. How about adding an off-site backup?

Thanks, josbarr! What's the CBOT have against its US customers?! Btw, note that the 90c rate (for all customers) is down from $1.25 as of Jan. 1st. It's nice to see competition reducing exchange fees. Many thanks to Eurex!

I guess the best commission rate to look for would be the lowest one, hey? That would be best for your investors. In any case, how much of a performance ding your investors and your track record takes due to commissions is strongly dependant on how frequently you trade. If you are a daytrader...

Sure, you can receive a portion of the commissions generated on your accounts — as long as it is disclosed. I, personally, would shy away from investing with a CTA that had an incentive to churn my account, though. I just charge a management and performance fee. Well, you can easily...

Would a hedge fund-style mutual fund work?

Sure, there are mutual funds that use fulcrum fees. Fidelity and Putnum use them. The big Magellan Fund has a fulcrum fee, for example. For the Magellan Fund the performance fee ranges from ±0.20% of assets (not profits) — yes, only 20 basis points — so the total management + performance...

    health care

I use the Galaxy Health Network medical savings card (www.galaxyhealth.net). It costs $10 per month for my family and the savings on dental cleanings alone more than pays for the card. We also save money on doctor visits, vision care, and prescription meds. We don't get any hospital or...

Would a hedge fund-style mutual fund work?

Under the Investment Advisors Act of 1940, any performance fee charged to a mutual fund (other than a fund whose shareholders are all "qualified clients") must be a "fulcrum" fee. A fulcrum fee is one that increases or decreases proportionately with performance. In other words it is symmetric...

    Eurex Early Close today?

I'm disappointed in Eurex that there is no mention of the Dax early close on their website. Here's their Dax trading calendar: http://www.eurexchange.com/products/FDAX.html?mode=trading_calendar There is nothing there about an early close. How are we supposed to find out about future...

Here is a list of accomplishments we have in Iraq

Huh! That's interesting and something I never knew. In history classes we were always taught that wars had discrete beginnings and endings. "And on such and such a date the Japanese surrendered." The history books then go on to the reconstruction as if hostilities stopped on a dime.
