    New Equipment...

?? The compatbility issue is HUGE. One uses Rambus memory and one uses DDR memory. Rambus is faster, arguably more stable, marginally more expensive & rumored to be on the way out in Intel's roadmap. Word is the 850 is the last Rmabus chipset from Intel. DDR memory is somewhat slower, stable...

    option hype

If you aren't VERY familiar with options, programs that teach about options (I'm NOT vouching for this one in particular) are not bad at all. I mean you have to learn somewhere and very few people have the patience/stamina to read through Larry McMillian's books.

    am I missing something?

But he said this big cap stock went down ~25% in a single day. No matter how much the IV was anticipating the earnings, a 25% drop in the underlying will make those ATM puts way ITM. And such a large drop in underlying price almost always increases IV. No way those puts don't move, a lot.

    "Ready" to Start Day Trading...

Well today was my first day day trading equities. I didn't lose but I didn't win big at all. Because of software upgrades w/TradeStation and some other reasons, I stayed away from the ES, NQ (I even checked out the frequently disrespected YM's). So I studied the DIA's and placed a few trades...

    option hype

Good point. A short leap straddle would get you a higher return if you're right. Of course it would also excelerate your loses if you're wrong. Because both the value of the LEAP put you sold has increased (which you have to cover) & the stock value has decreased (which you own).

    Intel 850e and G450s Work!

Do you care to elaborate. I've GREAT experiences with Intel mobo's. And their most recent 845PE mobo has gotten rave reviews. I've heard it complained that they are slow to release latest features and can't be overclocked (for the most part) but I've NEVER heard anyone call them "trouble."...

    Intel 850e and G450s Work!

I don't know what kind of software you're running, but I imagine the 3.06 w/ HT would be overkill, which isn't a bad thing at all :) :) :) but that CPU will cost almost twice as much as the next fastest from Intel. BTW, HT is not THAT big an improvement and SOME apps actually run slower...

    option hype

The problem, IMHO, is knowing when to cut your losses on a trade like this. The delta of the LEAP will be around 60, so this trade will lose money faster on the stock when it goes down than you make on the value of the LEAP premium declining. Coupled with the fact that the stock was most likely...

    Straight QQQ vs Mini/other

Thanks, BTW, I believe 60/40's also the case for DJX, OEX & SPX options, but possibly not for DIA, QQQ & SPY options (which seems weird, but I have been told this).

    Intel 850e and G450s Work!

I wonder if RAMBUS isn't dead just yet. All the test show that you've got the fastest chipset/memory combo w/o DUAL DDR.

    "Ready" to Start Day Trading...

I am not looking for anyone to tell me the Holy Grail, but if you have any advice on possible systems to start out with, time frames to use, and rules of thumb for profit taking and stops, that would be great. I'm not looking for anything too crazy just yet, just a way to get my feet wet w/o...

    Straight QQQ vs Mini/other

Could you elaborate a little on the tax differences? Thanks.

    option hype

Of course you'd have to buy the stock on margin to get ~100% because the premium from selling the LEAP is not = to the stock price, it's obviously less. In reality, I don't think it's a bad strategy.

    YM, YJ (Dow E-Mini's) Anybody?

I see a lot of talk about the ES and NQ. Is there a reason why the Dow E-Mini's don't seem to be traded here as much? Do you guys have some problems w/ them? (Or maybe I'm just missing the posts extolling their virtues :)) Thanks.

    Vertical Spreads, Why??

I tend to agree about credit spreads. If you're right, which you hopefully are, you can just let them expire worthless (no additional commission and spread to pay). If you're wrong, you can buy back what you sold and still own an option increasing in value (if the trend against your original...

Last Septermber 11th, What Could You Have Done?

An architect told me that certain perculiarities in the design of the WTC allowed the building to sway and not topple over on impact of the planes. And it was some unique design characteristics of the WTC that caused them to fall straight down instead of sideways. Untold lives were saved because...

Last Septermber 11th, What Could You Have Done?

I remember once putting in a Trade for ValueJet (one of their planes exploded and they were most likely liable). I put in a buy thinking the stock was too badly hit. But I still felt bad making a trading decision so clearly linked to human tragedy. The weird thing is that the trade just...
