    Apparently the sky is falling

Have these people not gone through enough bear market crashes?:D I know Scat has, I'm sure some of the others have too, but many act as if they've never gone through any. I lost my ass in the 87' crash, but 60% cash in the 2000 crash protected me, and 75% cash in 2008 was very nice indeed. So...

    Apparently the sky is falling

You brought up a good point...pension funds. My understanding is pension funds are underfunded by about $4.4 trillion in the U.S....similar to Germany's economy. If one of these situations blows up, panic will kick in...another crisis born imho.

    Apparently the sky is falling

Good point, but I bet most of the gain in gold is from about 1970...when the fiat system kicked into full gear.

    Apparently the sky is falling

I forgot to mention another "excess" situation. My wife runs a log home business in NorCal and their business is booming more than ever. Most of the homes they do are second homes or wealthy people retiring to the mountains to live in their dream home. The situation is even worse now than it was...

    Apparently the sky is falling

I like what you're doing. Dollar cost averaging over a long time period is a great move. I did the same thing and it paid off. Something that may happen to you as your age and account go higher and higher. As your account gets closer and closer to that million dollar mark, you may get more...

    Apparently the sky is falling

Someone who gets it! I would also like to add something to your analysis. A big red flag for me as far as reading the economy is excess. I see so much excess out there it's ridiculous. Everybody's 401k is way up. Everybody's house is way up. All bonds are way up. Debt is way...

    Apparently the sky is falling

The only thing that tells me everyone is jumping ship is if markets have been at least crashing for many months. All this negative talk means nothing if people aren't actually acting on it...panic selling for more than just a month.

    Apparently the sky is falling

I don't know what part of the market you buy, but companies do cease to exist. Did you hold any tech companies through the 2000 crash...many went away forever?

    Apparently the sky is falling

So many people are gold haters, but I think the price of gold fits your analysis to a degree as well. The price of gold averaged $20 or so through the whole 1800's...now it's plus $1300. Not bad for a shiny rock.

    You're a Liar

    I totally agree.

    You're a Liar

Even though I like and agree with some of the comments posted in this thread, it has turned into a typical thread once again. 1. A poster makes an outrageous claim: Impossible success by retail traders and their lies. 2. Everyone argues that their way of trading is the best way to trade and...

Perma Bears out in full force, Want a market crash so bad!

I think price levels have more to do with it. When Buffett said be greedy, he meant when prices were down (bear markets)...not all time highs with some worry out there...that would just be called a bull market rising with a wall of worry. So, what is it right now? Greed at all time highs or...

Help Yourself. Take the Personality Test

Are you sure you're a ISTP? They're actually analytical and like problem solving. They like fixing and making things. They're also good with their hands and are drawn to sports, racing, fishing, or hunting, etc. They can be found in rescue fields like firefighting, S.W.A.T., military. They...

Why market wizards are not day traders?

Is that you TDMA? Folks, look up TDMA...they are very similar. Both have a narcissistic mentality and treat ET members like we are some sort of scientific experiment created only for their amusement. We are the insects...he's the scientist. It's o.k. to be weird, but what makes him the worst...

    Intraday does not make sense.

I'll tell you how my life isn't complicated: I don't have a boss...no one tells me what to do. How do you like all your different bosses? I have no commute to work...unless you consider walking down the stairs to my office in my underwear. How's your commute...fun like they always are? I make...

Is It Time To Ban Desterio?

Really? OptionsOptionsOptions is Lawrence Lugar? They seem like different personalities. LL was always trying to be insightful about trading as more art than science and how much he got bored of long posts. OptionsOptionsOptions seems more feisty. Oh well.

you want to shoot fish in a barrel?

You know and I know that bear market rallies can be huge, even in the general stock market...remember the huge spike ups in 2008 during the crash? Anyway, I basically agree with you, but should there be a catalyst to make the hedge funds cover their large short positions, it won't matter what...
