Day traders, what's your trading time?

Thanks for sharing, and it's very impressive that you as a new trader love to short. I just couldn't get used to going short and only go long at the moment, I have been thinking about forcing myself to go short once per day.

Day traders, what's your trading time?

Here is a question to day traders, what's your usual trading time? I usually skip the first 30 minutes to get a clear picture of today's market, I also don't open new positions in the last one of two hours so that I don't have to close a position in a rush. But on the other hand, the high...

    Dennis Gartman's Rules for Trading

I like this one. I broke my rules today, I know it's wrong, dangerous and stupid, but I still did. It feels really bad.

who is the fastest in 2016

I seem to get it, you were talking about automated trading and the script will be running on your server. That makes sense.

who is the fastest in 2016

I don't understand the logic, why using your own server make it faster? It makes no sense, even you can use your server to replace IB's server, I don't think you can beat theirs.

The TREND is your friend.. The biggest lie ever!

Actually I love options, after I read the book "Options Made Easy" from cover to cover, I had about 5 option trades and all were easy wins. But, I don't like to hold a position for days or even weeks, I like day trading which gives me instant result. :) If I can't work out the day trading...

The TREND is your friend.. The biggest lie ever!

I didn't do any back tests. It started from an emotional trade: I bought 200 shares AAPL, it declined, I bought 200 more instead of cutting the loss as I usually do, it continued dropping, I bought 200 again, finally I got out with 800 shares. I wrote in my trading log that I would never do this...

ROFL again? Such meaningless replies kill discussions.

The TREND is your friend.. The biggest lie ever!

I always thought it could be potentially very dangerous, but on the other hand, I only day trade, I skip the first 30 minutes and finish trading before 2 PM. I only go long, when the market is very bearish, why do I have to trade at all? Anyway, after two weeks experiment, I believe my method is...

The TREND is your friend.. The biggest lie ever!

I can't say how it works with long term, but I have a 100% winning rate since I used it two weeks ago. It's a pretty good result for an active day trader. Of course it's not as simple as sitting on a losing trade and do nothing. You need to predict the reversal and buy at the lowest price, find...

The TREND is your friend.. The biggest lie ever!

I completely agree with OP, and there are many other misleading rules such as 1. Cut the losers, let the winners fly. 2. Never add shares to your losing positions. After I started doing the opposite, things turned around overnight!

How is your trading style evolving?

If you have been trading for more than a year, have you changed your trading style? And for what reasons? Maybe you used to be a strict day trader, you do more and more swing trades as you find it's easier. Or you day trade more and more to minimize the risks? Please share your experience.

Day traders, do you have a fund cap?

If you have been day trading for more than two years, do you have a fund cap? e.g. you only need $40K for your day trading account, if your net account value is more than that, you will withdraw the additional fund, because more fund means more risk to you rather than more profit.

Stop order on both directions with IB TWS

With IB TWS, can I setup one or two orders to close a position when the price moves at either direction. e.g. AAPL is traded at $100, I want to close my long position if the prices drops to $99 or reaches $101, is this possible? Thanks!

Serious question: What makes a successful daytrader? Is it consistent daily wins, or more wins?

If you placed a stop order, you would have to cancel it first if you want to close your position, right? What are 10 points exactly? 10 cents? 10%? I find this thread very interesting, hope my beginner questions don't highjack it, sorry.

    A pattern question

No, I'm not being unsatisfied with the $20 profit, I'm just not sure if I'm on the right track, that's why I eager to know how successful day traders trade. I did earn $600 on a lucky day, but I also lost over $1000 on a bad day, and the worst part is that my account is NOT in my control, I...

    A pattern question

Wow, thanks so much for all your replies, they were very helpful!:) Funny that when I cut the loss, the breakout usually fails; but if I don't, the loss grows. My trade size is around $10K, I used to sell my long position when the profit/loss reaches at least $50, often much higher; now I...

    A pattern question

I'm a new trader, I see pattern like this a lot in intraday line charts, and I'm really curious how successful day traders deal with it. What are your your entry and exit point? Will you cultivate a short price range between point A and B? Would you cut your long position loss at point C? Would...

    Day trading minimum equity call

I have just experienced this with IB. When you open a new position, if you account value is below $25K, your order will be rejected. The checking is in real time, as soon as your account value rises above 25K, you can do unlimited day trading again. If your account is below $25K and you want to...
