    IB Stop Order

You're probably right about a technical glitch, but be aware that brokers are usually not held responsible for losses due to technical problems. GLOBEX does not have native market orders, and I have found simulated market orders to be unsatisfactory. You can do better yourself with stop...

    IB Stop Order

It seems to me that quality of fill is a function of the exchange where the order is executed. All the broker will do is route the order there and return a report. It sounds like IB did just that. A stop order becomes a market order when elected. With a market order, you give up price for...

micro-credit: what is the economics behind it

This is from the Grameen Bank website: http://www.grameen-info.org/bank/GBGlance.htm - Although each borrower must belong to a five-member group, the group is not required to give any guarantee for a loan to its member. - Total number of borrowers is 6.61 million, 97 per cent of them are...

    Should hedge funds be regulated?

I think the LTCM debacle indicates the need for some oversight. LTCM almost brought down the financial markets with it because of its size. I think hedge fund investors can fend for themselves. It's us non-investors I am concerned about.

    what happened to Nickolas Darvas

I read the kohlhofers review, and there was something that struck me as odd, though possibly not relevant to this discussion. I wondered what grounds the government (in this case the NY Attorney General, not the US Attorney General as kohlhofers stated) would have for bringing charges against...

    Steidlmayer and Market Profile

I am about to move, and I am thinking about unloading books, etc. I may sell my pretty good collection of Market Profile materials if there is sufficient interest. Some of this stuff is rare and may be valuable: "Markets & Market Logic" by Steidlmayer "New Market Discoveries" by...

    IRA Daytrading

Some firms are offering restricted margin to cover settlement delays, but the use of leverage is prohibited by the IRS. It's unclear whether very frequent trading is permissable.

Percentage Returns and the Lotto Ticket

I agree that trading successfully long term is a numbers game ruled by probabilities. Depending on starting capital, 20% could be a little high or low. I am currently shooting for 25% with just my own capital. Good luck!

Just starting, how do you guys size up?

Don't get caught up in position-size envy! Position size is only one component of risk. Price, especially volatility, is also important. I have found I trade better if I have an uncomfortably large position on, but not so big that I could get suddenly wiped out. [Rich]

IB buy-on-open returns price 3% above NYSE quote?

I am not clear what you mean by "a time-triggered (9:21AM) BOO order on NYSE". Here are the order types: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/orderTypesMatrix.php?ib_entity=llc NYSE has precise rules regarding the official open. If you specified NYSE routing, got your order in on...

    DOes anyone know

If you are short, the change is nominal, just as if you are long. For example, if you are short 100 shares worth $8.00 when the stock splits 2/1, now you are short 200 worth $4.00. Flip side if you are long.

    DOes anyone know

jho's answer is technically correct. Splitting a stock is like splitting a quarter into two dimes and a nickel. There is a lot of theory about the motives behind a stock split, and whether a split, or more correctly, a rumor of a split can help the price of the stock. One common belief is...
