Risking 1% of your total equity. Does this refer to the stop?

The way I've always done position sizing and have seen and read in multiple places. Account = 100,000$ I decide I want to enter a trade in a stock, I see my entry will be 100$, and I will put a stop at 90$ where I will exit if the trade doesn't go my way. So that would be a 10$ loss per...

Interactive Brokers historical data vs Quandl (CME)

Google back-adjusted futures contracts and continuous contracts. This is most likely the issue. I don't use IB id guess their most likely using back adjusted data while quandl is giving you every single contract from its beginning to experiation where you'll have to come up with your own...

    Single large monitor - practical?

https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-43-ultra-hd-4k-multi-client-monitor/ Little pricey but pretty awesome. You wouldn't have to worry about tiling as it can use 4 inputs from your graphics card basically giving you the same functionality as 4 monitors. I personally have never liked my pc...

ameritrade Level 1 size is fake

TD direct investing does the same( Canadian TD). They just post how many lots there are each size on level 1 data. Not sure how one would say that stinks.

    Hedging overseas FX risk

Just curious however why you bought US listed etfs. Surely AUS has some etfs that track similar products. The volume might be crap for day trading but for buy/hold you should get a decent price.

    Hedging overseas FX risk

Not sure if I'm misinterpreting but right now with your VLH and GLD a growing U.S dollar is beneficial since those funds are in U.S dollars. What you'd want to do is worry about the U.S dollar coming down against the AUD since you bought into US funds at their higher point.

BC Government offering interest free loans for house down payments!

The issue with BC is their is a ridiculous housing bubble. A lot of foreigners started swooping in and rose prices up. I work in the industrial trades and travel back and forth for major projects and I've worked with multiple guys who have realtors knocking on their doors with offers when their...

    Confusing bid/ask in TWS

He entered a limit and it got executed right away by some internal wholesaler. Nothing wrong with the software. Nothing says a limit order has to hit the exchanfe

    Limit, Stop, and Market Orders

Let me rephrase what I said. A stop limit order will execute at the best price available. It becomes a marketable limit order, however if it gaps past the limit it's left standing in the book.

    Limit, Stop, and Market Orders

The limit order will be executed at the best price. I always use what most would call a marketable limit order, meaning my limit is above the best offer. Just a habit because I don't want to be that bad tick on the chart on some fancy footwork from algos. For stops I use a limit stop. Consists...

Retrieving information from a laptop with a bad monitor

Gkishot solution is where I'd start. Best Buy is pulling your leg if they say they'll hook it up to their monitor and extract it. If you plugged it into your tv and it didn't display it sounds like a graphics card issue. But the strange part is I'm guessing it's nothing high end and probably...

Interested in trading Vanguard ETFs (from Canada)

SPY is listed in the U.S and you'll have to convert to U.S dollars. VFV is vanguards SnP 500 canadian listed ETF, volume is subpar but it tracks it. ZSP is BMO's listed ETF for SnP 500. XSP is iShares version. HSU is a 2x leveraged one listed on the TSX offered by Horizon. Plenty of options...

Interested in trading Vanguard ETFs (from Canada)

They state it's only 24.95 if your assets with them are under 5k. Most brokers will have some sort of similar minimum amount except maybe some of the larger banks that offer brokerage accounts.

Interested in trading Vanguard ETFs (from Canada)

You will need a broker, as they are traded on an exchange and you'll need a broker to access the exchange. Questtrade would be a good option. http://www.questrade.com/pricing/self-directed-investing/commissions/stocks Depending on what type of account you want their may be some fees. RRSP and...

Interested in trading Vanguard ETFs (from Canada)

Any reason you want it to be a U.S broker if your looking for a buy/hold ETF? Vanguard has plenty of Canadian listed ETF's that follow U.S underlyings. Theirs hundreds of options on the Canadian markets. The benefits of trading a Canadian listed ETF are that you won't have to worry about...

Trading short and ultra short etfs

Like scalper Joe mentioned these are intended as daytrading vehicles. The carry cost of leveraged etfs and inverse etfs make these not that great for longer hold times

    Tastytrade Review + Criticism

You should really consider using limit orders. You'd probably find that if a 3rd party is paying for your order to your new broker for " better executions" , that someone would probably pick your order up at an even better price sent to a displayed exchange.

options trading in IB Canada RRSP and TFSA accounts

The issue is that an RRSP and TFSA are only allowed under a cash account. No margin is allowed. Selling options or shorting stocks requires margin account.
