    The short vol market

Recently stumbled on a podcast called Macro Voices. Global Macro trading has always interested me and decided it was time to start looking into some material on the subject. Even if I never trade off this concept, always enjoy learning something new and understanding the markets from another...

discuss when adding to a losing position is proper

Interesting topic. Personally one of ideas for next research/backtesting was mean reversion in stocks and scaling against the move. If the strategy works and it’s part of the plan, why wouldn’t you trade it? From my research stocks tends to mean revert more then trend and scaling in for a...

Short Sellers Do Good, So Leave Them Alone

Major holders are listed because of possible control, shorts are just borrowers. I personally think short interest is enough transparency.

Who is ready to join the party and short the market?

http://stockcharts.com/freecharts/historical/marketindexes.html I look at these charts and see way more opportunity on the long sides... Every crash(bear market) looks like a little pullback after the next trend let up. The odds look good for buy and hold investors.

Quick idea, if it doesnt work its cool.

Calls and entry’s are the easy part of trading, we all know how to get into trades no problem. Position size and exits are the tricky part. Like others say, stocktwits might be better if this the information your looking for. I take anything I read whether it’s a book, blog, forum post with...

    401k / retirement account

If you simply held through it you would’ve doubled your money anyway since 2008. You only lose 50% if you cashed out at the bottom and chased the way back up. I’d look to start averaging in if we keep going down myself if I was cashed out. Depending on how close you are to needing the funds.

Did any technicals predict the melt down?

It’s just a 20 day EMA with channels 2.25 ATR away. Something I got from Adam Grimes. Copied the colouring too. Theirs really nothing magical about the values of the channels or colouring the bars when they strike through the channels. Just aids me when looking for possible setups through lots...

Did any technicals predict the melt down?

My bread and butter is trading pullbacks/consolidations in trends. Looking for new relevant highs/lows with momentum and looking for volatility contraction in the pullbacks. Looking at the SNP 500 its pretty easy to see the last swing went parabolic. Everyone's panicking to get in and when the...

Hearing the VIX products carnage crushed some Prop Firms

Wonder what the next product “financial engineers” will come up with next. Don’t think anyone really understands the possible complexities of today’s markets. Just keep making derivatives of derivatives and then make some derivitaves on that, then basket them all together, yada yada. Wish I...

XIV margin call at Questrade.......any recourse?

Does aftermarket trading even come into play on margin calls? If that’s the case it’d be pretty easy to pick some thinly traded market and make some crazy prints and watch the margin calls and liquidation’s come in. Think the issue here is that the ETN is liquidating.

Trading 2,500 ounce silver contracts instead of 5,000 ounce

I’d be very skeptical myself to a system that only works on one instrument to some overfitting of the data. But who am I to judge. If it backtest, forward test and you feel confident, trade it.

Free EOD S&P 500 index data for export to excel - Where?

Ah sorry. I misread your post. You want the index close, not futures. Quandl does offer that but it’s under premium offered by bar chart.com

Sierrachart annoyed with data fees and intend to rock the boat

As much as data fees are probably overpriced. Last thing you want with futures is anything like the fragmented stock markets.

Isn’t that similar to CFD’s? Never trades either but from what I understand it sounds like what your describing.

Sierrachart annoyed with data fees and intend to rock the boat

Brokerage data fees and data vendor fees are a complete different. Sierra chart is just software that you can plug your brokerage into which would give you the brokerages data feed( perhaps with limitations). http://www.iqfeed.net/index.cfm?displayaction=data&section=fees That’s a good...
