The one thought that comes to mind is the last "crash" excluding any flash crash, was probably once in lifetime event, they brought down the whole market ... even the good ones like you mention that pay dividend and sell product, measurable. Not sure what your doing is looking in isolation ...

I am thinking of trying to make 10 percent or so on 25k Sell put spreads OTM with maybe a 75-100 spread in strikes, do this quarterly, maybe 2 contracts. stop assuming no flash crash would be 1.5 times credit, so it really would take 3 complete losing trades/quarters in a row to begin to...

downside was risky tho. I was thinking SP futures, put spreads with a 10 percent drop in the sp as stop point, or a predetermined max loss of say 1.5 times the credit spread..

Also I have not been able to figure out. Why not sell credit put spreads if you just sell the put the margins are high tying up cash and you have the tail risk. If you do a fairly wide spread of OTM risk is capped?

Sure, but how does it compare to just buying the underlying wether it be stock or futures, the percent being right is bad, but the payoff to risk is very good ? no ?

meaning you buy option instead o future ? I do that however researching anothe strat., why I started this thread. Yes, I think you are refer to buying "vol " ? Do you buy deep OTM or ATM , and both calls or puts pending bias ?

I dont know, you know markets, cant ever be sure, it could go on another 5 years, I think the markets are going to higher for a long while, its just a function of the worthless dollar because of all the printing, not because the econ. or anything is all that great.... sort of a weird bull market...
