Can you stomach the inevitable streak of 10 losers in a row? Then you need 50 winners to get back to even. If your average profit target on 20 cents is $100 (500 shares) then you'll have to be able to sit through a 5K drawdown while making money back $100/time.
I'm trading right now with...
Obsession is a necessary straight of a profitable trader. If you're not obsessed with your work how can you compete with those who are following every tick and every little bit of data?
If you feel this way find a place to trade with little no capital and trade trade trade.
Having built myself up from nothing more than once, I strongly disagree. A good trader with a good edge can make money without any capital. If you're just staring, know nothing, and have no mentor then sure, lots of capital is good.
Scalping to me's about watching the liquidity and catching the erroneous orders, the guys slow to cancel, the resting limits, and putting your money on the break through support/resistance or leaning on it holding.
Some platforms allow you to set a key (such as tab) to cycle between level II/market maker/order entry boxes. In Laser I use 4 boxes and pressing tab always selects the box to the left, so no stock is more than 3 key clicks away.
I heard anecdotally that there exists a route that first checks EDGX, then BOSX, and if neither have liquidity, it goes to NY. If anyone knows the name of this route or any details, please respond here or PM me. Thanks!
may want to setup keys cancel all bids, cancel all offers, cancel last bid, cancel all... canceling with a mouse is very very slow and will destroy you in a fast market.
If you're just swing trading you will have more P/L volatility than if you're scalping. Scalping should have a smoother equity curve since you place more trades. If scalping stocks under $100 I don't see anyone making a living with less than 50k shares traded daily. If you're a good trader...
lol! no it's per MONTH. And you get to make back the previous month's losses at 100% before you have to split what you make. Per trade? Jeez everyone would end up massively in debt to these places.
what's wrong with using shift and/or ctrl+letter keys?
I have shift+ Z through N filled with BUY keys, shift+ A through H filled with sells...
numpad changes quantity of shares
arrow keys move limit price
enter enters orders
Easy. If you have a 5k deposit and make $10,000/month that 15% comes out to $18,000/year. I'll risk $5k with a reputable firm for the extra $18k anyday.
I don't like discretionary or quantitative.
How about some more options?
