Filing Taxes as an Active "Day" Trader

I have filed as a "trader." The first two years doing that, I had significant losses. (I realize that goes against the average ET poster, who became a millionaire within their first 7 months of trading). I also had significant income from my job (well into 6 figures) and that income was...

Why the hell would anybody trade forex?

I trade 4x every day. It is much more of a "trending market" - I'll elaborate if you want me to. Find a broker with no deal desk: I use MBTrading - small spreads - great execution. (Only complaint is the maintenance that happens twice a day so you have to call in a trade during that time)...

    Metastock Add-Ons (Plug Ins)

Sniper, which add-ons did you have? None were worth the money?

    Metastock Add-Ons (Plug Ins)

I've used a LOT of software programs over the years and was considering Metastock. Anyone care to post opinions of the add-ons (i.e. Trade Oracle, Nison's Candlesticks Unleashed, etc...)? How viable are they? Are any of them necessary for someone who is an active trader of stocks, futures...

    Question on Installing Second Monitor

That's a good point, sax. The only thing with me is that I run e-signal and there's an extra fee to run on more than 1 computer. I'll probably end up buying a second desktop w/4 monitors and using Metastock w/Reuters feed. That way if e-signal has issues, I have a back-up or vice-versa.

    Question on Installing Second Monitor

the z, I'm thinking about adding 1-2 more computers w/4 monitors on each or maybe 1 computer w/6 monitors. How much would the Nvidia cards cost?

    Question on Installing Second Monitor

FWIW, I have 4 monitors hooked up to my Dimension - the video card is from Matrox - cost was $600.00, but they're supposed to be the best.

    Joining RBC/Carlin

I went from years as a broker, then traded full-time, then was a seminar presenter across North America - and now I'm back to trading full-time. It's a VERY tough business. I don't care what any of the "experts" on this site say. People don't realize how difficult it is to make "x" amount...

    SiSePuede's Journal

I'm with you on AXP - got a position in that. Where's your buddy, StockTrad3r? I'm surprised he hasn't bashed your thread by now.

NYT Romney Article - Time To Tax VCs

I know this isn't the purpose of your thread, so I don't want to change the subject. However, more than 1/2 the population believes in God and supports lower taxation and opposes abortion. According to the media, that would make them part of the "evil, religious right." That website you...

NYT Romney Article - Time To Tax VCs

Just out of curiosity... what exactly is a "right wing fundamentalist nut job?" Is that someone who believes in God, lower taxes AND opposes abortion? Polls show more than 1/2 the population fall into that category.

What is the best Software to Use for Day Trading?

Dave I use Omni Pro with RML Trading. Due to volume, I have a pretty good deal with them: 2.95/stock trade. They also rebate @ .002 if you add liquidity through ARCA. I trade short term quite a bit (also have long term accounts for swing/position trading). If you would like to check...

    Tax status as Daytrader

I've filed as a "trader" in recent years. You don't need to set up an LLC - my tax advisor instructed me.

What is the best Software to Use for Day Trading?

I'll just throw this out there. I've been trading for about 14 years and am in possession of multiple software programs: all of which are sponsors of ET. After all the money spent, what I've found the most effective is simply trading breakouts while using candles, ADX, Stochastic, volume and...

    Discount broker salary

I was a full service broker for a long time. I didn't read all of the replies but the real question is: what's the difference between a "full service broker" and a "discount" broker? The difference, quite simply is, that the full service broker works primarily on commission and manages...

    VectorVest vs. Worden's TeleChart

I've used both also. TC is ok... however, just more of what I was already using. Vector Vest is a different type of service altogether because it actually gives recommendations on securities... some of which I tried and worked out. They're just 2 different tools - depends on what you're...
