My logic behind using Python first is due to dealing with data. When I first started moving out of TS / WL environment, I had a hard time dealing with classes, array(queue, arraylist... etc. etc.), and datatypes. Python interprets much of what's needed and lets you concentrate on the control...

Thanks for clearing things up. Maybe Wealth-Lab or Tradestation is what you should be using. Then get into Python -> Java/C# -> C++. It's a more straight forward path and upgrade as the necessity requires to. Eventually, we're not programmers.

Here's the deal: What are you tring to do? Do you just run tests or thinking of actually getting into developing an automated order system afterwards. How far is the computation going to go? Are you thinking of testing under a cluster / super computer enviornment or just running...

*yawn* So what kind of tasks does the thread starter need to develop? Picking a programming language depends on the requirements of the project. I personally use C# because it's enough. Can program in Java, Python, and a little C++ (really little...)
