...and then you woke up LOL. Are you using a data feed that doesn't have arbitrary symbol limits that renders otion chain scanning pointless? You must have a fairly fat pipe or co-locate at exhange if your universe of stocks is non-trivial.

    Assignment (newbie)

Indeed, we need to know the cost of the 25 PUT. My mistake, I interpreted your words "getting paid" for selling the CALL as somehow implying profit potential for the suggested adjustment. My bad.

    Assignment (newbie)

It would be nice to have all of the numbers for the initial trade. Yes, your suggested trade would be legging into the conversion but it would most likely be locking in a loss - though it's difficult to tell without the figures for the long PUT. There seems little benefit to doing said...

    Assignment (newbie)

Actually, my post was meant to be informational rather than critical of your suggestions. Sorry! having said that, I'm not sure of your latest assessment though. You're going to make me run the numbers aren't you? Grrr.... It seems unlikely that if his original position was showing a loss...

Yeah, I remember. Going non-pay was a cheeky move to avoid having to provide commercial support - where they failed in the first place. At the same time, they get people to fix their bugs for them! During this period of non-pay, vendors have been put under pressure by customers to integrate with...

options on NQ so wide? (ask/bid)

SSB, I believe your post was very well intentioned! You touch on an oft discussed topic here in the Options Forum. I'm sure you've read Fooled by Randomness. Taleb had a nice way of putting it: "It is a platitude that children learn only from their own mistakes; they will cease to...

Fee structure is likely to change in the future unfortunately.....that is, once they've leveraged the experience of all the guinea pigs currently trialing out the software and submitting patches to their code base i.e doing all of the work! I'm not just being cynical. They have...

    Assignment (newbie)

Selling the Nov 25 CALL is completing the conversion. You are offsetting the synthetic Nov 25 CALL with a real Nov 25 CALL.

    Writing options for a living

With BXM futures, most of those real-world factors go to nil for comparison's sake with presumably the additional benefit of futures margining. Talk about the lazy man's covered CALL! Die thread die!

    Assignment (newbie)

After assignment, your current position is: Long NOV 06 25 PUT Long 100 SY i.e. you are now synthetically Long NOV 06 25 CALL Unlimited upside, limited downside equal to the debit paid for the synthetic CALL. To get back to your original bull vertical position, you would have to...

The last time I checked historical tick data with OT was about 6 weeks ago. There appeared to be some problems with CME data at that time. I haven't checked for any progress since then. I will be investigating this week when I play around with RightEdge some more.

    management of losing/winning positions

Some factors that can influence a decision are: the size of the position and the risk/reward. I prefer smaller position sizes with compelling risk/rewards, therefore taking a loss is not hard to do. If position sizes are larger and risk/reward is worse then it is much more tempting to make...

I've posted a couple of question marks before about Open Tick data. It all seems to be moving along in the right direction though... Suggest anyone interested check out the Open Tick forums. I too am trying out the RightEdge beta, it's pretty slick, intuitive, fast, easy to use and has...

    Good book on options

I see you've posted this in two different places! grrr... Just about any introductory text will do e.g. Options as Strategic Investment by McMillan Optioncoach here has co-written a book called The Option Trader Handbook. I haven't read it myself but did pick it up at a bookshop recently -...

Yeah, LOL. I'm waiting to hear back about it from them. I started a thread over in Options about that: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=78836 ...but this thread has probably superceeded that one.

    Bye-bye reg T

That was for the pilot program. Read on. The post-pilot proposals potentially waived the $5million. It certainly isn't clear one way or another if there is going to be an equity minimum and when this is going to be available to the masses if at all.
