Is Quantitative Analysis the only way to get an edge in the market?

Generally, yes, I think. Regardless of what you do, there's still the thousands of hours you need to invest in order to learn how price moves. Most people don't have a photographic memory. I know I don't. So, unless you're some savant, I'm skeptical towards anyone being able to trade based on...

I want to take a course on how to trade es

As long as you know you won't be rich or even richer from following these courses, I don't see the harm. You do know that, right? That said, I have no experience with online courses. However, if they're making any claims, i.e., "Trade for a living in three months" or whatever, know that it's...

Has anyone heard of the pattern trader

Sounds like and probably is a scam.

Best book to rewire me to follow my trading plan

I bet your plan ain't that good. Probably highly subjective and open to interpretation as well. That's your real problem.

    What books do you recommend

I might recommend "New Trading Systems & Methods" to get your juices flowing. Most books are useless though.

My Story Trading as teenager, lost $50000 daytrading futures

You probably won't listen anyway, but you should QUIT. Actively trading the markets and making money doing so is an arena for professionals, not pimple-faced teenagers without a job who came across some money. You should get a good education and a job. If you insist on trading, you need...

    Nooby McNoob becomes a quant

Good luck! Any advice for non-quants or would-be quants? A post about your experience at this hedgefund, either here or as a separate thread, would be interesting.

    borrow money to trade

I lent from a bank and lost it. I'm lucky it was a small amount. If you're successful, you don't need outside money. That's the bottome line. So, since you're not successful, lending money from friends and losing it will only add more misery to your life.

Requesting help to find a simple monitor solution.

I went for these. Very satisfied with this set-up and glad I chose this versus one large 4K screen. I won't rule out that for the future of course, but right now, this was my best bet. Cheap, fits my furniture and does exactly what I need. :)

Dell Precision T5810, well appointed.... $849

Thanks. I think I saw you mention that HP workstations are similar. These (and Lenovo) are more common (thus more price competitive) here in Norway, so I might see if I can find a suitable model from one of these two.

Which Dell model was that, @Scataphagos ? In the market for a workstation myself.

Requesting help to find a simple monitor solution.

Hello friends, Due to the conflicting information with regards to choosing 4K or not, I was hoping to try out a 28" 4K directly in the shop, but no luck so far after visiting 4 different shops! My plan was to perhaps go for one single 4K 28" for now and then expand with another one later on if...

@tommcginnis Best contribution so far. Are those lines proprietary or do you care to a give a quick summary?

Chart Porn. post your chart porn.

Nah...consider me unimpressed. Connecting lines on a chart after the fact is a piece of cake.

With that many lines price is bound to reverse from some of them simply by chance. What's the use then?

Requesting help to find a simple monitor solution.

Hi, thanks for all answers. There seems to be some conflicting information on the subject whenever you ask anyone. I'm sure this is to expected as it's just as much about personal preference. I will bring my laptop to the computer store and see if I can test the various options before deciding.

Requesting help to find a simple monitor solution.

Hello all, I'm currently using a 13.3" ASUS Zenbook with a 14" Lenovo LCD screen. It's great for mobility and travel, but I think it would benefit me to have more work space. I only trade one product, so I would need one screen for charts and one screen for Excel/MATLAB. For now, I'm...

Handling the psychological part of being a full-time trader/investor

If you're really successful, I don't think you'll have any issues. If you're fighting to get by and trying hard just to compete with your salary in your old job, you'll have issues.

Any studies on the impact of news on stock market and commodity prices? Buy the rumor...?

Hi, all, All of us who's been around for a while know that news are not always the daily or weekly driver of price movement. Often, it seems like there's a lot of truth to the old adage, "Buy the rumor, sell the news." You'll have a stock rise greatly into a positive news release, only to sell...
