Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

Good post. I wonder if the proponents of volume in this thread can match your performance? Everyone is of course welcome to voice their opinions, but I think a strong opinion should be backed by strong results. I am not saying people need to post blotters or results to participate in a...

Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

No, price can exist without volume as you can have a price that's not transacted (yet or ever), but volume can't exist without price.

Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

Interesting discussion for sure. BUT, the main part of this discussion seems to have missed most people posting. In the opening post, I clearly said: Assuming volume analysis is useful - would it be any different in index futures than say single stocks or commodities? To repeat myself. The...

Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

I do. What I don't like about volume charts and tick charts is that they're not consistent from day to day. A time-based chart is always 390 minutes. But I do think V/T charts can improve on execution.

Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

Interesting. I do happen to have volume charts in addition to my time based charts, but I wouldn't consider this to be volume analysis per se, although you're certainly using an aspect of volume in your analysis. Mind me ask what kind of settings you use on your volume charts? Are these 'fast'...

Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

To, me it sees like volume analysis is one of those things that's simply accepted as truth without further question or even proof of it's utility. It just seems logical that it has to have some kind of value, right? It's evident in this thread from your answer here and from many other posters.

Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

I'll try to make a more in depth comment later, but to clarify; this discussion is about whether volume analysis is different in a market such as stock index futures for reasons already mentioned as compared to a single stock or commodity. I think raw volume on a 1-minute bar is flawed, but...

Is volume analysis useful in index futures?

Hi, Assuming that volume analysis of various kinds is useful in technical analysis - would a market like index futures be any different than other markets like for instance commodities? Or single stocks? With index futures, you're basically trading a basket of stocks or an index, which is...

    Xela: More Likes than Posts!!

If I could play the devil's advocate here for a minute: How many of you who find Xela's advice invaluable have been able to translate that valuable advice into big money in your pocket from your market operations? Consider this friendly advice and not an attack on anyone. I just find from my...

I don't know anything about Xela and rarely read here anyway, but this made me chuckle. :)

Anybody using Stage 5 Trading Corp?

I hear good things myself, but sadly, they don't provide Ninjatrader. Although it's not a must, I've used the platform for so long now, that I don't really feel like changing it. An alternative could be to use NT for charting and execute through their platform, but I'd prefer to have one...

Looking for a decent cheap historical data feed

I've heard Sierra also has a decent service, but don't have details. Personally, I use IQ Feed and QCollector.

    Crude best hours to trade?

It is positive in that I'm trying to help you. I wouldn't want to encourage you to lose your money. Are you seriously wanting to be told from a bunch of strangers when you should trade crude oil?

    Crude best hours to trade?

If you have to ask this on a public forum, you're in no position to be trading crude oil. You need to know this from your own research and data. Should be obvious.

Is it possible that an edge/pattern that has worked since the beginning of time?

    Yes. 1) Sell a top 2) Buy a bottom Always works. :)

    ES VS NQ

You've done way too little study. I said earlier in a thread that you simply need to learn more and you accused me of being negative. But that remains true. You don't yet know enough to trade live. :)

    The S&P 500 has topped at 2430 on 6/1/17

What specifically is the rationale for a top or a sell-off here? Let's consider the facts from recent time: 1) The last major leg up on the daily went 100 points before a 'shallow' 50 point pullback. 2) From late 2016 to end of 1st quarter 2017, the market went 320 points up with only a...

    ES HAS TOPPED

All time highs, yes? If I'm not mistaken, Paul Tudor Jones's philosophy in trading is to call tops and bottoms. I do agree on the short signals though. The markets could have been topping here. But all things considered, there were no compelling reasons (IMO) that the market would top in this...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

I've tried, but to me, candlesticks seems better. I find that bar charts are harder to 'read'.
