    Government rule??????

The problem lies in the possibility that you could get filled on the orders above your cash. It wouldn't theoretically be against the rules for you to place the orders, but you MIGHT get filled on them above your cash amount which would cause a reg T call. The broker would run into problems with...

    Direct Access firms

LOL, that is so great. Excellent post, keep up the good board-police work. tryon73 is a real loser. We'll all have to remember him for when he tries this crap again.

    Which is the best indicator?

I agree. You need to make more choices on a poll like this or at least make a "none of the above" choice.

Prop Blowups, how common are they?

The most I ever saw when I worked in a prop firm is one guy lost $280,000+ on one trade when he was short a bunch of it, the stock halted and then opened much higher.

Interactive Brokers Ranked No. 1 Software-Based Online Broker by Barron's

I'd like to see their customer service rating. When I was with them it was horrible, both slow and rude. Although to be fair, I must say this was several years ago so it may be better now.

    Order busting

I'd use 10% as a rule of thumb for ECNs, although you can definitely still get busts under 10% on occasion. The basic point is that the trade must be "clearly erroneous" in order to be broken. Clearly erroneous meaning obviously wrong or obviously done by error.

    Personal Trading Web Site

A quick and easy program for creating websites is Microsoft Frontpage. It won't be anything spectacular, but its easy to use and you can make a respectable looking site with it. You can host your site with digitalspace.net which is the cheapest I know of at $3 per month. I wouldn't worry...

    Day Trading under $25k...

Just wanted to revisit this, my friend "TraderRuss" is still using Alliance. http://www.alldaytraders.com Apparently everything is ok there. I'm gonna have to tell him to come back himself and tell you guys how its been.

What does everyone do for streaming news?

I use the DAS trader software from the firm Realfasttrader.com It has news built into it. I think the news feed is from Realtimetraders.com Although I must admit I really don't trade off news, I use technical indicators. I only watch news for my long term (IRA acct) positions.

    Zerolinetrader

This may be the hardest post to read ever. Friendly advice: Try writing the whole word, everyone else does it. Abbreviating everything makes you come across as lazy. An occassion abbreviation is ok (like acct for account or stoch for stochastics). I'm not trying to be a jerk to you, but it...

    Day Trading under $25k...

LOL, no doubt. You are a troll Ebo. Try saying something constructive or nothing at all. I guess when you're not really a trader you have time to troll the boards and make 1000+ useless posts. rdewey, don't let people like that get to you. You will find there are a bunch of jerks on ET that...

    Day Trading under $25k...

Ameritrade got in big trouble (big fine) for doing that. In a cash account you should not be able to use the funds again until they settle (T+3).

    Day Trading under $25k...

Thats what this whole thread is about "Day Trading under $25k" thats "So what". I was answering what someone else wrote about. That is what you do in a message thread. What the hell do you mean with "So what?"? You've got to love when you are actually on topic and a guy acts like you are...

    Day Trading under $25k...

If they were US licensed broker, they wouldn't be able to let you day trade under $25k. The whole reason they can let you day trade with under $25k is because they are not a US firm and therefore not governed by NASD/SEC. No US broker would be able to let you do this, unless you were a prop trader.

Is $5,000 enough to get started with trading?

If you did that I'd say you blew about $48,000 or so more than you need to "educating yourself". With $2,000 you could probably buy almost every book ever written on day trading. Regardless of the amount you start trading with, there will most likely be a learning curve. You must accept the...

May they rest in peace: dead firms

Here are a few that are gone (as far as I know): Blackwood trading - They were a Wall st prop firm doing 20 million + shares a day Broadway trading - Another Wall st firm that used to have a ton of prop guys & volume Tradescape - Bought out by Etrade Protrader - Bought out by Instinet for...

    SEC Fee Increase

That is still cheaper than it was the previous 2 fees before the most recent lowering to .0000234 All of these amounts are pretty small anyway. The SEC fee has never been something I took into consideration when trading.

    SEC Fee Increase

Actually it has been going down recently, but it does fluctuate. Here is a table of the SEC fee rates for the last few years and now: 0.0000333 is the rate in effect prior to December 28, 2001 0.0000150 is the rate effective December 28, 2001 0.0000301 is the rate effective April 1...

Where are the "Midday Doldrums" gone ?

Midday still sucks IMO, but it may just have to do with my trading style. I generally make most of my money for the day the 1st hour.
