Good luck! I'll be following your progress. I also agree w/y on the FF rates. When did you enter that trade?

    Deep backwardation in T-Bonds?

Actually, per the tutorial I posted above, you don't erode "all" of your interest earned, just the "long term" portion. Here's what the tutorial says about it... "Consider the implications of a hedge, specifically, by selling futures against a long-term bond, one commits (at least...

    Deep backwardation in T-Bonds?

This cme tutorial explains it pretty well: http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/interest-rates/files/Understanding_US_Treasury_Futures.pdf Specifically page 28 and it is very close to what nazzdack mentioned. Here's the overview: "In a normal upwardly sloping yield curve environment where...

    Deep backwardation in T-Bonds?

what does that mean? I know duration, but convergence on duration.....??

    Deep backwardation in T-Bonds?

Atticus, yes indeed price of bonds and interest rates share an inverse relationship, and the data that I'm looking at show that clearly. But that price/interest rate relationship does not affect contango/backwardization: when interest rates go up, prices go down - but the futures contracts...

Futures curve based alpha strategy In an Merrill Lynch commodity report

There's an ETF for that.. Well, ETN's actually - though they allow you to trade the direction of the change in the yield curve and do not offer a mechanical strategy.. http://www.ipathetn.com/FLAT-overview.jsp http://www.ipathetn.com/STPP-overview.jsp

    Deep backwardation in T-Bonds?

I've noticed that when the yield curve is inverted, that the t-bill futures chain also inverts (goes into contango). Why is this?

20% CAGR Asset Class: Leveraged Treasury Notes

Thanks Ficktrader, Indeed, notwithstanding the credit risk of the government, my question to the forum is about the mechanics of rolling treasury futures (of any government or duration). Is that chart accurate? And for what it's worth, there are years when you would have lost money on the...

20% CAGR Asset Class: Leveraged Treasury Notes

I've been looking at treasury note futures as an additional asset class. The attached chart shows the 10 Year U.S. Treasury Notes Continuous Contract. My question is this: Can I use a portion of my account as margin to buy T-Note futures (about $1k/contract) and therefore be leveraged to...

Anyone know why there is so much volume on the vix options? Who uses it and why?

    Strange Vix Futures values?

On the topic of backwardization, it seems that equity indices and their futures contracts are in backwardization. I've not been able to find any references of this in equities (metals and other markets yes, but not equities). Any thoughts on why?

Ib Doesn"t Do Roth Conversions??? Wtf!!

I rolled a few 401(k)'s and my Roth IRA all into one account at TDAmeritrade and then transfered to IB in a margin account. That's the suggested method and it worked. A bit of a paper trail mess, but I'm happy.

O'Shaughnessy - What Works on Wall Street

That's where I'm leaning too. The strategies outlined in his research are interesting and should I use them, I want to make sure I'm doing it right.

The one thing I never understood...

How about this method? : Use a very simply trend following system and observe the equity curve it produces. When it is moving up, you are in trend mode and should trade it. Do the same for a choppy system, maybe even use the same strategy only inversed. Set up some sort of a condition...

O'Shaughnessy - What Works on Wall Street

In his book, "What Works on Wall Street", O'Shaughnessy mentions small cap stocks and offers strategies to use that out performs the markets. Does anyone know if he included Over the Counter (OTC) stocks in his analysis? Thanks, Granville

How can there be a crisis when so many

I think the idea (fear) here is that banks aren't 'banking' anymore. They are just sitting on thier money. No credit = no business. That being said, my friend's business is booked through January. Very interesting time.

    ET Official Bottom Watch Thread

Not too many more days and the Dow will be at zero. This can't last too much longer (downward trend) before we hit bottom. Not to imply that we are going to rocket back up to the top.

    Combining multiple systems

Anybody make any progress with this concept? (Monty Hall problem applied to trading). I'm really doubting that there is any applicability but I'm having fun trying to figure it out.
