    Capflow32?

I used Capflow32 for several years and attended the classes during that time. I dropped my subscription several years ago, and I have since lost touch with developments. I noticed there is an information request form on the website, but I don't know how responsive they are. It's not a very...

Best Way To Trade On The Go

A lot depends on what software you use for trading. I am looking at using remote desktop software, such as logmein, to control my desktop system at home. I used gotomypc in the past, and it worked well. I believe this combination is also a bit more secure.

    General IB questions

IB sometimes has software quality issues that seem to come in waves. I have been trading there for about 5 1/2 years now, and I have learned not to be too eager to upgrade the TWS or API. I used to be a programmer, so I write my own software to access the API, and I use automation a lot.

    H-1b

While technically true, these requirement don't actually mean much. A company in northen California got caught bringing in prostitutes and calling them "computer programmers". H1B visa requires a 4-year degree, but nobody actually checks. Similarly, the law requires paying prevailing wages...

    Suggestions to Improve Automated Trading...

I have a very short-term ATS that lets me dial in how many stocks I trade at one time. Both in back-testing and actual trading, the fewer stocks I trade the higher and lumpier the return over time. The more stocks I trade, the smoother the return. This seems to be consistent over time, and...

    Suggestions to Improve Automated Trading...

What you're talking about here is an adaptive system that adjusts to changing conditions. It sounds good in theory, but is difficult to accomplish. The biggest problems seem to be the added complexity, difficulty of back-testing, and problems around the boundary when it is not clear which...

    IB API disables TWS UI?

I haven't noticed any problems today on two accounts. I am running WinXP Pro SP3, TWS 882.2, API 9.40, Java 1.5.0_13.

    Opening Orders - 2008

What got me to thinking about reversing is how quickly, and how far, the market sometimes runs against me. I am using automation, and the the reversal would be done very quickly, probably with some restriction on how fast the price needs to change before I reverse. I would only do one...

    Suggestions to Improve Automated Trading...

It's hard to know what to say about what we are doing. We're all social animals, and we need to interact with others. But if we're making money consistently, and especially with an ATS, the more detail we give up, the more we risk permanently damaging our edge. I believe that the single...

    Opening Orders - 2008

I have been thinking about this one for some time now. What do you think about reversing the position, maybe just far enough to net out the earlier loss?

    Opening Orders - 2008

That was my conclusion. It is hard to identify the 'real' NYSE open price, and harder still to know where I would exit the trades. Trading with a 100-share cap gives me plenty of 'action' without doing any serious damage to my financial well-being. I haven't yet decided how long to keep the...

What do u think will happen if all traders use the same ATS systems :)?

If we don't get too greedy, there should be enough there for us all to make a little.:D

    IB-standalone version?

I am using TWS 882.2, Java 1.5.0_13, API 9.40, and WinXP pro, and everything seems to be running smoothly. I tend to be slow to upgrade.

Any chance I can get some guidance?

There are two kinds of news: scheduled and surprise. Scheduled news is something like a Fed meeting or earnings. If there is scheduled news coming out, the best strategy is usually to close all positions and wait for the dust to settle. The only way to protect against surprises is to be...

Any chance I can get some guidance?

I have met only one other person who trades on news, and he lost money pretty consistently. Eventually, he gave up.

I think that is what he means by 'SP500 increase'. It is my understanding that most people here are not factoring in beta. If all your stocks have similar beta, the envelope takes care of that.

    saving IB monthly statements

I save daily reports at spreadsheets. Just do "Save as" and give it a '.xls' extension. So far, I have been able to download monthly reports as spreadsheets with no reformatting.
