No doubt that you are correct. I was really wondering if anybody here was buying stocks for the long term, ignoring the short term fluctuations.

Is anybody here basing their stock picking approach on fundamentals? Does anybody look at balance sheets, income statements anymore? Or are most system driven by technicals these days?

I see that IB categorizes their stock offering in categories and sub-categories (Right-click on a stock symbol and click Description). Simple question: Is there a way to screen/search for stocks through IB using this information? I wasn't able to find a search engine through TWS.

SSO is a leveraged ETF that tracks the SP500. However, I'd like to know exactly how it works? And why does it only approximate the underlying index? Understanding how it works, might give some indication as to how reliable the correlation between these two issues is.

Isn't there a way to sell put option premiums on a stock that one is willing to own in the long run? i.e. sell put options while the stock is overpriced until you are forced to own the underlying shares. Does this at all sound sensible? Could somebody provide some details on this technique...

In general, this is an IPO that never had a chance to get off the ground due to the present financial crisis. However, what worries me is that if enough traders close their accounts due to fear, their expected revenues could drop unexpectedly.

Are commissions for ETFs such as SSO usually equal too commissions on stocks? Or are they more in line with mutual funds. I would like trade SSO without having mutual fund level comissions eat up profit. That's why I'm asking.

I tried looking on the Proshares site for the commissions incured in trading SSO. Does this only depend on the broker?
