Getting Started Developing and Trading System

Hi Hook N. Sinker. One of the main benefits of designing your own system is that its YOUR SYSTEM. This means that you design it with the features you want. If psychologically you cannot handle a long losing streak then design a system that doesnt have long losing streaks. One way of doing...

Getting Started Developing and Trading System

Do you mean Perry Kaufman? Its a good book. There are several other books you should read before you start. I have a blog where I have documented all the stages required for systems development and design and testing. As for the software I use metastock and tradesim. TradeSim is first...

    Trading fulltime retail with $50k

I would suggest backtesting before risking any real money trading. You'd be suprised to know how many seemingly well thought out theories are doomed to fail. Just my opinion.

When do you cut your loss?

Hi, I use 15% for my weekly method. Its what worked best in my testing. The initial stop for me was put there only for position sizing. The system works just as well without it. ie. the initial stop is equal to the trailing exit.

Short poll on money management & losses.

Hi chrismontez, Even though you've done very well so far, I think you've been lucky. Using gut feeling, having no system, and averaging down are recipes for disaster. I know because I was there not long ago. Now I trade a fully mechanical system for stocks and I maintain a blog. I...

    Intraday mechanical system

Mike, Thanks for your thoughts. I think there is great potential in intraday trading. Though I was thinking 5-10 trades per trade. 3-5 trades a week is not much for an intraday system. But hey 56%pa is nothing to scoff at. Kuran, Thanks. I have bookmarked your blog for later reference...

Why Is it in Investors Interest To Hold Equities

In response to the thread question. To make more money by milking those winners as much as you can by riding the trend for the longest time possible. My research and testing has showed that the big winners are those that were held for the longest amount of time. Of course if its a dog...

POLL TWO: If you could dine with one Futures Guru

Yeh how about this... "Excuse me, I must relieve myself... Umm... the market is about to open!" LOL On a more serious note, I think Marty Swartz would be interesting to talk to. His technique of high percentage winners is very unique as far as I know.

    Intraday mechanical system

Hi, Does anybody here trade a mechanical system on intraday timeframes? If so, what markets do you trade? What timeframes? eg. 1min, 5min, 15min, etc And what returns are you pulling per annum? What is win% and profit factor? And how about average trade length? # trades per...

could strategy building on tick charts be robust?

Yes true. Short term systems have higher win % and lower (average win/average loss) than longer term systems. But the advantages of a short term system is less market exposure and INCREASED trade frequency. The latter is where the appeal is.
