Is this is the best position ever if you can do this...

Gotcha. Good point. Just trying to re-educate myself.

Is this is the best position ever if you can do this...

This thread reminds me I haven't traded options for awhile, and I'm pretty rusty. But in the current environment, Implied volatility is pretty high, so won't you experience some IV crush if things rally? Longer term options tend to have higher IV, so I'm not sure selling short term contracts...

    Losing a dog and trading

Thank you. I'm gradually working my way back into trading, as earnings season is picking up, and it is going well. But I've noticed myself being extremely risk averse in trading and in life. And I am a true believer that there is no reward without risk, and although I feel better, I find...

Just to be more patient and appreciate what I have, rather than what I want.

    Losing a dog and trading

I'd say the second, more mild form of depression, and acceptance when it comes to both my dog and the relationship. There was never really anger or bargaining when it came to putting the dog down, because I knew it was coming soon. He was 15. But I was in those phases for a very long time as...

    Losing a dog and trading

I'm doing pretty well. It was tough losing a long term girlfriend (mutual decision), and having to put my dog of 13 years down 8 days later. It was a tough few months. And my biggest mistake was trying to make up for the pain by making money in the markets. Very bad idea. I'm a good...

The other day I met a trader

I feel very similar. You sound like you and your wife are very happy. I love my isolation during the trading week. But other than doing work around the family farm, my weekends are very empty since my long term girlfriend and I broke up a couple of months ago. I feel like I need social...

How was ET back in 2008?

Interesting to see myself at the top of the page you pulled up. :-) That was back in my enveloping days with automation. Now my trading is completely different. Amazing how much it has changed and evolved since then.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It gets a little better every day, but it is still very painful.

    Losing a dog and trading

Moderators, can you move this thread to Psychology? I'm dealing with other major shit in my life, and I think it's important to get this out in the open so others can learn from it.

    Losing a dog and trading

I'm relieved that he went so peacefully yesterday at the vet, but I am am also surprised at how much it hurts and how much it is clouding my judgement. I had 2 nice trades this morning, and I am done for the day. (I normally do 10 - 20. I'm not a rapid fire trader) I was only in those trades...

How to create an Automated Trading System

You can hook up Trade Ideas to Interactive brokers for automation. I don't have experience with this, but I've been using Trade Ideas for years, and know IB is the only platform TI will send orders to.

Feeling like you never fit in ...

Interesting. I've always felt extremely isolated in big cities. I lived in Los Angeles for a year, and I felt claustrophobic, and I thought it was very strange that I felt that way. But it's tough to feel like you're a part of a community when the community is so vast and so crowded. I love...

    The Opening Bell

Rules change for market makers in stocks once the bell rings at 9:30 Eastern time, and again later in the morning, and again before the close, and again at the close. Might be a good thing to know if you're going to trade stocks. As well if you are going to trade futures, don't you think?

is astrology in trading any good?

Random stars separated by space which have no bearing on what will happen to you or what will happen in the market.

    How dumb are you?

    38. But it is more of of a trivia game than an intelligence test. Interesting, though.

I always seem to sell too early.

It's very simple. You're afraid of a small profit getting away from you. Been there, done that. I think it's the biggest killer of traders who have put in the studying and time and finally know what they are doing. Get used to letting small profits go away, and set up profit targets to sell...
