Don's openings and more for 2005

Hey Don, Got a question for you. Had a short for RIG at 70.66. It opened at 70.66 up .01. My order went in at 9:27:52. I didn't get filled. When I inquired, I didn't get the usual "orders ahead" line. Instead the specialist said shorts need to be in 5 minutes in advance to get assured a...

poker player tries his hand at futures trading

I changed your post to make my point. People fail at trading regardless of background. It seems like you are projecting your own limitations onto the rest of us. Sorry for contributing to your journal veering off topic Fletch. Best of luck in your trading.

The stereotyping of engineers as non-traders is getting old. Yes, there are engineers who over-analyze everything and we've all worked with them and know the type. They tend not to get far in engineering either. But there are those of us who don't think that way and we trade just fine, thank...

    T1 line - How Much?

    1) Where do you live? Boise ID 2) what phone company? the circuit is provided by Qwest 3) What T1 provider are you using? Idacomm, a subsidiary of the local power company. They've been aggressive in their resale of T1 and DSL services. The service support has been outstanding...

    T1 line - How Much?

I had cable and couldn't deal with the constant outages. I'm too far out for DSL. So I got a 1/2 T1 for $250 month. I've had it for 6 months. Outages: 0! My provider even called one day to make sure I was having a good connection because their monitors said I might not be. They also...

It's a limit order with the Time in Force column set to OPG. I'd start small (100shrs) until you're sure you have your calcuations, etc correct. No point paying extra for your education. Good luck!

One of the biggest advantages of this method is the openingonly order type. I would advise against using regular day orders. You may not get the opening print with them. Plus not all stocks open at 9:30 on the dot and you may lose track of them and get filled when you didn't want to. I...

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

The problem is they will discount your evidence if you don't include the internet data. It's classic "help-desk-itis". It won't matter if you've proven on the last five occurances that it wasn't your internet connection. It might have been this time since you didn't document it.... If there's a...

For Sale: Series 7 Study Guide

I passed Wednesday, got 87%. It seemed good to me, I can think of only a couple questions that I couldn't remember being covered exactly. I read it carefully once, reviewed it once and then drilled practice questions for a few days. BTW, it's completely unmarked.

I scratched CVS because they reported monthly sales. But I agree it's still choppy out there.

    Dividents arbitrage

Those calls will get excercised the day before the stock goes ex-div and you won't get the dividend. Look at it from the perspective of the guy who owns those options. He has to exercise. You are betting he is sloppy and doesn't. Might work, but it's far from a sure thing.

Don's openings and more for 2005

Like everyone else, if it weren't for that 1 day, this month would have been pretty blah, mildly profitable. I've tightened up the criteria for most of my stocks (ie. widened my envelopes). No point churning. You'll still get lots of fills on those rare monster days.

Yep, don't blink or you'll miss it. You remember correctly. I was at Cactus Pete's. Only poker room in Jackpot. It's worth a stop if you happen to be passing through.
