IB: API problems placing first order of the day (sometimes)

I've never observed that. On Linux, I reckon it's a good idea to set system title bar option: Configuration -> Display -> Style -> Use system title bar

    Snow because of global warming!

World's top firms cause $2.2tn of environmental damage, report estimates "Report for the UN into the activities of the world's 3,000 biggest companies estimates one-third of profits would be lost if firms were forced to pay for use, loss and damage of environment"...

    Snow because of global warming!

    Nice visualization of the accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/k7jvP7BqVi4&rel=0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen"...

    Snow because of global warming!

Whatever the cost is, a lot of it is capital expenditure and infrastructure. You are getting a modern electricity generation system for your money, for example. Current infrastructure is not going to last forever. It is not wasted expenditure such as for example certain wars are.

    Snow because of global warming!

It might be unusual, but it is localized as shown by the NASA GISS temperature anomaly map for January 2010: Notice how warm northern Canada is. And notice how cool western Europe and northern Asia is. You can make a map for any period you like here...

    Snow because of global warming!

Somewhere I've seen figures of 2-3% of GDP per year as the direct cost of reducing CO2 emissions for a country like the US. Can't remember the source of that. Wouldn't surprise me if that was too low. It is certain that it is extremely difficult to come up with the cost of business as usual...

    Snow because of global warming!

Does it not make you a little uncomfortable that your claim is entirely at odds with science. The peak bodies of world science that have official positions affirming that AGW is real: The national science academies * of Australia, * of Belgium, * of Brazil, * of...

    Snow because of global warming!

Monckton is the village idiot of climate science. His views carry no weight at all in the scientific community. Not surprising for somebody who advocated the internment of all people infected with HIV in camps. I already took Carters nonsense apart. I have more to do with my time than view...

    Snow because of global warming!

No, I just didn't refer to paleoclimate reconstructions, but as you asked about it, I will. Carter was again cherry picking his data (in this case just one study). The NOAA Paleoclimatology Reconstructions Network lists "92 high-resolution temperature records over the past 2+ millennia"...

    4 trillion degress celsius

What really gets me about you bible bashers is your contempt for your fellow human beings. In this case scientists. To become a competent scientist requires years of work, study and research. Much of it acquiring knowledge accumulated by other human beings, also through huge effort over the...

    Snow because of global warming!

Carter is a political hack. His opening to the presentation is purely political. When he actually gets onto talking about the evidence, the first thing he does it set up a straw man. He looks at temperature data cherry picked from 1998 to 2005 and says "Look here - no warming trend and CO2...

There is video illustrating a little of this work here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXy5EvYu3fw and a more complete account than Reuters here: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/02/100215101014.htm

Is there anything you think isn't a scam? Up to it again - those scientists with their wacky maths and melted thermometers. If they only had the foresight to visit ET and receive some homely wisdom.

World May Not Be Warming, Say Scientists

No. It's the science. And no, it's not the latest hobbyhorse. The first climate model attempting to estimate the effect of CO2 on climate was produced in 1895 by the Swedish chemist Arrhenius who came up with a figure for climate sensitivity to CO2 not so very different from IPCC estimates...

Ninja Zen no more unfiltered data?

There is a good list exchanges and the order types they support here: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/p.php?f=exchanges Click on the individual exchange and then order types. The list of order types natively supported by the exchange is shown as well as the "simulated" order types...

Ninja Zen no more unfiltered data?

For the purpose of this thread, the issue is whether last trade was executed at bid or ask. I can't see what clock skew, network latency or managing orders on a 50ms time frame has got to do with it.

If it has one. IB TWS doesn't.

Ninja Zen no more unfiltered data?

I have Level 1 abstraction layer that is fine for the three feeds I have supported so far - IB TWS, OpenTick (now defunct) and DTN IQFeed. Each tick results in a tick event (eg last, bid, last size etc etc). Tick listeners register themselves to receive tick events in the Java style of event...

    Snow because of global warming!

You entirely miss the point, which is that Hansen came up with the prediction not by statistical inference (ie it's been that way before therefore it must be that way in the future), but by including the effect of particulates in his physical model. By so doing he added to the knowledge of...

    Snow because of global warming!

Indeed so. In fact James Hansen's climate model from 1988 successfully predicted short term cooling from the Mount Pinatubo Eruption in 1991. Climate models take into account the effect of volcanoes. As I understand it, the cooling effect is due to fine particles injected into the atmosphere...
