Can you belive the close today 10-27-08

what i found interesting was that rut dropped nearly 5% but deep otm puts were unchanged. iv is dropping hard on these options; you'd expect puts to increase 100-200% on this type of selling.

Can you belive the close today 10-27-08

par for the course. we've had a number of days that started or ended like this. wasn't it last friday where the market tanked 6.5% in the first 15 minutes? i can't even remember anymore, it has become so common.

California Mortgage Foreclosure Chart. Eye Opening.

virtually all the foreclosures in calif are homes in working class neighborhoods or in the outlying, less desirable areas as you mentioned. in my city (25k people, median price > $1m) i didn't find a single foreclosure on zillow's site. i expect that as the economy continues to take a dump...

    SPY Naked Put Margin

you said you've been trading options for 30 years and you got this wrong? this is options 101. reg-t for selling naked puts or calls otm = 10% of aggregate value + premium. (7000+6400) * 0.10 = 1340. you should know this in your head if you've traded options for even 1 year

Had to post this - Student loan fugitives

stafford and perkins loans are guaranteed by the government (hence, their interest rates are the lowest). other loans are not. it's not clear from the article which type of loan it was but i'm sure part of them had to have been private loans because you can't borrow that much from...

Had to post this - Student loan fugitives

it depends. if it's someone with a strong payment history and high fico score who's suddenly having trouble, chances are that if the lender were flexible the debtor may be able to get back on his feet. but there's a category of low-fico people (ie, deadbeats) who would become delinquent again...

    biggs says rally soon

this clown's hedge fund is probably on the verge of a blowup. he's starting to sound like mock_trad3r, you know, just keep repeating the bullish comments and maybe by 2011 you'll be right. question is, will his fund survive that long?

Had to post this - Student loan fugitives

the lender deserves to lose money. they're retarded for lending that much to a music major. it's probably the same underwriter who approved the $250k mortgage to the mcdonalds chef who claims to make $80k annually and who has a fico of 600.

I just got turned down for a secured loan!

it sounds like you're assuming rates will climb. you're locking in the loan @ 3.5% and hoping cd's will pay a couple of % points above that in order to recoup the loss you're incurring now. is that right? where did the 8% come from? if i understand you right, you're getting 5% on 100k...

Anyone have lasik eye surgery done?

you're freakin nuts!! if you must have good vision for your job, say as a pilot or firefighter, then it's worth considering. but ffs, why would you risk your vision just for convenience from glasses or contacts??

long term investment, anyone loading up their IRA?

there's no hurry in buying. major corrections take years to run their course. eight years after the tech bubble, the naz only recovered to 50% of its 2000 peak. it probably will take 20+ years to recover completely.

I just got turned down for a secured loan!

you left out a very important number: dti ratio what is yours? with a fico of 700 you're below the median, and your score suggests a 90-day delinquency rate of 8%. btw what's the point of borrowing money that's secured by an equal amount of cash? did the loan specify that the cash would...

    VIX to 100 tommorow?

it won't open over 100. it may climb to 100 intraday but a 6% drop on es won't cause vix to spike 50%.

big ups to our hard working boys in blue..

the one thing the cop has going for him is, you can see him backing up so clearly he perceives (right or wrong) that the dog is a threat. they will use this as an argument. although that dog looked like it was going to run past him not into him... in any case, it's the killing of an...

Need to lose 20lbs in 6 weeks...

anyone who mentions bmi obviously doesn't do weights. hey richard simmons, are you like 135 pounds of skin and bones? i eat meat and my cholesterol is in the 130's. and i'm sure i could kick your skinny lil tofu-eating ass too. :D here's the holy grail: 1. lift weights 2. if your...

IB trashes account - what would TOS do?

how much 'play' you leave depends on the margin computation of your broker and your positions. for something very volatile like occ-tims or span, i only use about 5-7% of available margin. for ib's pm, i would use about 15%. for reg-t, i'd use more because it's fairly stable. the other...

    Big SPs go side-by side?

if you were doing really well, you'd get an f430 and three pieces of eye candy, like i have. and no successful guy is married. that's a self-contradiction. :D
