I use both the 5 and the 1min charts. One thing I have found is that you can give a double top a little more time to develope. If it truly is a double top the retracement will be substantial so there is no need to try and catch the top.

How can you be trading and not be aware of reports coming out?

Ticks help on entry but where they shine is telling you when to exit. A perfect example just a few minutes ago.

This morning , according to IB Globex was down for about 15 minutes. I could not place a trade during this period but my charts and quotes kept on advancing. How can I still be getting quotes if Globex is down? Are the minis traded elsewhere? Or was it just IB's connection that was messed up?

Theres not much out there on trading the eminis. Open a small account and trade one contract for a couple of months. Youll either sink or swim.
