canadian income trusts to be taxed

Unbelievable response - but let me respond to the "liberal" comments. FYI, most countries (including Canada and the US) have a tax law that states in a round about way that it is illegal to create a transaction for the sole purpose of avoiding "normal" taxation. Regardless of loopholes - it...

canadian income trusts to be taxed

One last comment for those who don't really understand what happened here: Trust companies have grown in Canada simply because Canadian Corporations found a loophole in the tax system. It was never the intention of the Tax Act that Coal/Oil/phone/utility companies be allowed to be setup as a...

canadian income trusts to be taxed

Leave it up to an American to blame a Country for his lousy investment. BTW - if you did your homework you would have known something was coming. Large Canadian corportations (BCE/Telus) had already said they were going to become a trust because of the favorable tax treatment. The banks...

Proposed Changes to Cash Dividend Adjustment Policies

Here is a quick lesson for those who think comment letters to the SEC are meaningless. There were only a few comment letters to the SEC re the OCC's dividend adjustment rule change but they were "good" ones and the OCC has been forced/persuaded to modify and to grandfather the rule (if approved...

    Bye-bye reg T

I've been in contact with the CBOE/NYSE re portfolio margin since about 2000. The latest news is a little promising but I'll believe it when I see it. As for the $5 million minimum equity in the pilot program - unfortunately I believe that there still may be this "type" of requirement. I've...

    crossed markets

Does anyone know why the NBBO for many ETF's seem to be crossed (but untradable)? (I'm looking at IB's quotes for SPY - 136.83 bid 136.80 ask and IWM 76.38 bid 76.35 ask). The INET quotes are untradable. I'm not sure if this is an IB issue or a INET issue (no trade throughs changes)

    OSTK ceo

Flytiger, I sent you a private message a few months ago stating that I knew an institution who likes OSTK's fundamentals and they were being paid about 20% per year to lend out their shares. I have since heard that many investors are buying the shares and simply lending them out. Also, my...

Does IB take responsibility? An amazing story

Hypothetically risk-free if you have the capital to handle all possible assignments that might take place - which was NOT the case for your situation. If you understood the real risk of these positions, you would understand why IB has a 50 times equity GPV limit and you probably would not be...

    IB Horror Story

Knowing whether or not an assignment has been made could be beneficial not simply because of liquidation risk but for other reasons. Here is one: For example: having a conversion/reconversion on and an assignment takes place - this will generally reduce your margin requirement but also...

    IB Horror Story

Perhpas a good idea (email notification) - I mean it can't hurt. Yes, assignments happen over night - I believe it is IB's goal to make sure that they are ALL processed and update the account immediately.

    IB Horror Story

Assigned positions may not always appear immediately. This was a known issue at IB about one month ago - that there were times when assigned options would "NOT" show up in your account/TWS without actually restarting your TWS. In my experience this was rare but I would still see about 5...

Why would successful traders join/stay in a prop firm?

Retail firms should embrace the change as it would free up more capital so their clients can trade more.
