Definitely the former. Outright directional trading is a tough tough game. They probably employ strategies that are not viable at TST. Bulk of my stuff is multi-leg spreads which requires tiny round trip costs and custom margining, something TST doesn't offer.

yeah and the conditioning to only trade when your blueprints says is hard to achieve. For me I only trade if certain things have happened within time windows in my 'blueprint'. Just now I have seen many things happen that line up in my blueprint but the time is wrong hence it is no trade...

custom margining has already been mentioned. This is true in futures and stocks as well as options mentioned. I would also lower round trip costs much lower than those available to a retail trader.
