    Bottom in?

I am out. Cryptos scare the hell out of me and I have idea where the bottom is.

    Bottom in?

I agree. Look for multiple tests of a major support level before getting long again. I have been standing aside on both the long and short side this whole week.

Fast market Lesson: Stops can get rejected

I am glad you were watching and that it worked out.

Fast market Lesson: Stops can get rejected

I so agree. Stops on every trade. So it was automated trading but you were watching it when it happened?

Fast market Lesson: Stops can get rejected

Not necessarily. A fast market can jump a stoploss order. Even a stop loss needs a counter party to trade with. If everyone is running for the hills and price has moved far from your stop it may never fill.

Sorry if we offended you. We are just trying to help. I think we both see a money management issue and that set off big red flags. You should never ever have a margin call. Paying 25% in commissions is also a little concerning but you are using complex options strategies and they will come with...

Ya. I re-read his initial post and I agree with you. There are some fundamental trading issues that need to be resolved first. Thanks for pointing that out.

Have you considered moving over to the futures markets? They do not have the PDT rules and you can trade the contracts or options.

Is investing in real estate less time-consuming than stocks?

I agree. Most of our Reg D investors are as interested in the tax savings as much as the profits. The 1031 exchange benefits are also a big draw especially with the new tax plan coming up.

    Managing winners

In my opinion that would require you be able to say this. If this (fundamental thing) occurs I will exit. I dont know what fundamental thing could occur that would be an exit trigger. Short of the company declaring bankruptcy if you are an equities trader.

    Managing winners

I am not sure what I have to say will be helpful or not. I have gone entirely to short term (daily) trading. Here are my thoughts on exits. No one knows how far a move will go. Hence I dislike targets. You will take losses. Therefore its critical that you get all that you can out of a winner...

    Managing winners

I did not realize that you were an options trader. That complicates my opinion. Lol. I assume that you are also a swing trader? By that I mean that you hold your option positions for several days?

    Managing winners

I try to never take profits early. I use technical analysis to determine the exit. Question. What is your exit strategy?

Is investing in real estate less time-consuming than stocks?

I am sorry. Yes, Assisted living facility. They are actually great investments. I live in Florida and there are a lot of old mom and pop apartment complexes and motels that sit on great locations. We buy them and modify them to be used as ALF s. We then rent the property to health care providers...

Is investing in real estate less time-consuming than stocks?

I agree. Thats one of the reasons that I moved into commercial properties. I invest in self storage and ALF s. And some high end residential. I think I will start winding down the residential properties pretty soon.

Is investing in real estate less time-consuming than stocks?

Its a little ironic that I saw this post. I just got through reading an article about day trading on a realestate site called bigger pockets. One of my former students commented on the article which is what drew me too it. As for the question, it depends. Just like there are different styles of...

I would like to become an automated trader. How do I start?

Wouldn't all strats be based on indicators? The program would need the mathmatical input from them to trigger an action. Correct?

I would like to become an automated trader. How do I start?

Good point. I guess it depends on perspective. I don't know how to code and I am frankly not very interested in learning. I found it easier to have someone else program the strat and then test the daylights out of it myself.

I would like to become an automated trader. How do I start?

I agree. Its easier to hire a programmer than get proficient at coding. Also consider this. You expose yourself to a new risk with automated trading. Tech risk. The risk that some unforseen in the code or communication between the platform and broker could create problems. Since we are dealing...
