    The Curious Story of TickZoom

Agree. I can't imagine how much money a guy like that can lose trading... It's quite understandable how he wants to be a vendor now...

Arbitrage Pricer ! what strategy is ?

I don't see or hear about intra-broker arbitrage these days. Last one we exploited was about 2+ years ago between Currenex, FXAll and SaxoBank. The cause of the exploit: 1. A flaw in one of the broker's FIX Gateway. 2. The dealers are stupid. 3. We suspect that the broker's...

The quant equation that killed us

Well... You see the same ol' thing happening with non-Quant. trading systems. It was just another model that was "curve-fitted" by clueless people. Equally, our human brain does it all the time, making discretionary traders vulnerable to it too. What's interesting is how biases (cognitive...

    Information - Us v. Them

Hrrrmmm... Here's a few things about inside information: 1. Most pre-news trades rarely occur these days. It attracts a lot of attention and the watchers usually takes a look at who's making those trades. There are smarter ways to utilize inside information without getting all the...

    Pseudo-random runs around Visual Studios

I started this thread to keep a sense of responsibility to learn new stuff but obviously, I'm lazy (actually, I'm a bit tied up with programming a batch automation for a little Middle office thingie...). So in the meantime... http://health.yahoo.com/news/ap/us_med_cancer_vaccines.html...

    Pseudo-random runs around Visual Studios

There's 3 points to this thread... 1. I teach myself how to code in F#. I'll be coding my .NET Backtesting software written in both C#/F#. I'm not going to go in and make it complicated with FIX OMS or CEP/ESP. Just plain ol' basic stuff and keeping things free and somewhat of a...

    Information - Us v. Them

Re-ask your question replacing retail and institutions: Do retail traders (however many definitions their may be of that) make their decisions to buy and sell off of the same Indicators, trendlines, volume, price movements, news, etc. that we do??? You'll get the same ol' answer.

    Information - Us v. Them

Regardless of the facts, all you've mentioned are just your imaginative guess based on you observation. But I agree with your assessment towards hershey. He's very annoying.

    Frosty's Autotrading Equities Journal

frosty, Serious opinion. You'll bust within 3 months. I think I've written this in your last journal... your approach towards trading continues to go around in circles, never improving. The reason why you quit backtesting simply states that you have no idea about systematic trading...

Intraday mean-reverting and momentum trading strategies?

My research says that markets have weak intra-market correlation in a short timeframe. How you exploit something depends on what you tested and how you confirmed the initial idea. Without that, there's no point of providing advice. Even more, there's no point of accepting other's advice...

    Can ES trades get "busted"???

Yes, trades get busted. But you usually get notices from your broker/clearing firm by the end of the day. I've never had a notice on T+3. If you ever do, you're dealing with scum broker.

Hedge Fund looking to provide capital

The deal depends on the level of service you'll be expecting from your parent fund. Which side of the firm (you / parent) will be doing: 1. The clearing / auditing. Who's going to be taking care of all the middle office stuff? 2. Legal / Compliance. Who's going to be taking care of...
