Is It over For the U.S. - The Ecstasy of Empire

I give the US a good chance for a strong rebound, if they would legalize all drugs. What a waste of billions and billions of money, effort and millions of people, with 0 results. The rest is peanuts, except maybe abolishment of income adn corporate tax in favor of the 25% fed. sales tax.

    earn on storage cost

Assume you had the possibility to 50% of the time manage to pick a winning trade, and the other 50% of the times a losing trade, for same profit/loss. All of the trades would be short, and in Energy futures, or any future in a commodity that would have a storage cost in the premium over spot...

How a New Jobless Era Will Transform America

Let them unemployed start their own businesses or free lance ventures, as long as there is enough food being grown on US soil, US citizens shouldn´t be hungry. Anyway, people around here prefer to whine it seems. and ralph was right, once the baby boomers start retiring, there will be an...

Here we go again... pushing up the debt ceiling.

Lower standards of living: probably, i agree with you. But, when the babyboomers retire, expect a over-supply of jobs and a shortage of working age people.

7 million lost jobs: Gone forever?

What a pessimism. The economy and job market have been going through cycles since the dawn of time. As long as people are willing to work, and willing to reeducate themselves if needed, there will always be jobs. Eventhough they might not be car factory workers earning $60k a year, that was...

58% in U.S. Get "Majority of Income" from Gov't: Unemployment to Reach 23% in 2018

Removing corporate/personal income taxes for a value added tax (VAT) only system will give the economy enough incentives imo

What if in 100 years, robots can do all the work.

I wouldn´t worry about not enough jobs.. Only thing to worry about is if the ownership of the robots will be more or less evenly spread, so everybody can reap the rewards. If the ownership will be concentrated in a few hands, some will live lifes or leisure, others will live lifes begging.

Two big ETF mysteries appeared today 10/01/09

Yes, maybe the underlying bonds just didn't sell off because there was nobody trading them.. But I have no idea about frequency of trades in bonds, don't have access to a bloomberg either.

Two big ETF mysteries appeared today 10/01/09

Let me spell it out for you: S/he is not trying to find out why the corporate junk bonds were dumping, he is trying to find out why the ETF's were selling offs, while the underlying were not. Here, it's not that hard ;-)

ISRG up on prostate news, but new study shows prostate should often be left alone.

I would not be surprised if everybody in the world would switch to a nearly vegetarian diet, also global warming destruction of rain forests, erosion of living standards etc. would be solved by 50% at least.

Not-obvious reason growing dissatisfaction in US

In 1950, the US population was half of what it is now. That means twice more space per person. Less demand for land thus cheaper housing, emptier roads, more space for growing food thus lower food prices, etc. etc.

    intraday time decay?

I am not sure I am correct, as I forgot what theta etc. means, but I guess your question about intraday time decay comes down to: 1) is interest calculated overnight or real time? > overnight as far as i know, therefore there shouldn´t be intraday time decay. 2) time decay as in volatility...
